Summary
The sequel to the no. 1 Sunday Times bestseller Murder Before Evensong
Canon Daniel Clement is back...
It's been a few months since murder tore apart the community of Champton apart. As Canon Daniel Clement tries to steady his flock, the parish is joined with Upper and Lower Badsaddle, bringing a new tide of unwanted change.
But church politics soon become the least of Daniel's problems. His mother - headstrong, fearless Audrey - is obviously up to something, something she is determined to keep from him. And she is not the only one.
And then all hell breaks loose when murder returns to Champton in the form of a shocking ritualistic killing...
Critic reviews
"Champton joins St Mary Mead and Midsomer in the great atlas of fictional English villages where the crimes are as dastardly as the residents delightful." (Damian Barr)

I didn’t see that coming!
I loved the return to the Vicarage and getting involved with the villagers again! The setting and period is excellent, as is the narration - I could listen to Rev. Richard Coles all day. The plot takes many a turn so expect the unexpected. I cannot wait for the next tale!

Can't wait for the next one.
The second murder mystery novel in the Canon Clement series, which I found it to be just as engaging and amusing as the previous one. The plot moves along quickly, with well-developed, interesting characters, several intriguing story lines over and above the murder itself,

Good story, not so good narration
I enjoyed the story but Richard, please find someone else to read your books. Your narration is not good.

A disappointing second novel
I read the first story of Daniel and his parish and enjoyed it very much.
I have only listened to A Death in the Parish and was very disappointed in the narration. I failed to follow many conversations as the characters were not sufficiently delineated. An experienced narrator would have improved the listening experience hugely made the story more interesting and lively.

Heartbroken !!!
You tease, Richard Coles ! I'm devastated by the end of this book and cannot wait until you write a 3rd Canon Clements story and make it all right .
Having said which, i loved this book as much as the first story. Apart from the excellent detective mystery element, the combination of vivid characterisation and wry humour is leavened with a compassionate and sincere understanding of our human frailties. I also learned a lot about C of E ritual and history - fascinating stuff. So glad it is read by the author's gentle voice.
Thank you.

Cosy mystery
Really enjoyed this book. Easy on the ears and a nice cosy mystery which I enjoy. Nice twist at the end which I did not expect! I am assuming there will be more in this series. Do not expect a hard hitting detective novel because it is not. If you enjoy cosy mysteries then this and the first one are for you.

Just as good as the first
Brilliant depiction of English
village C of E world of the 1980s. I just love the humour, the woven strands of Rectory life, seasonal country life, crime, friendship and puppies… really, what more could anyone ask for? Apart from… more please Rev Richard!!

Aaarg I need book 3
I love the writing, the way everything is observed and described. Learning new words and I enjoyed the plot tremendously. Audrey is a wonderful character. Thank you The Reverend Richard Coles. Please give us book 3.

Even better than the first
Brilliant and full empathy. I don‘t know why this book got the title “cosy mystery”, the absecense of sadism and gore, of disregard for the victims? It is not cosy and all the better for it, full of insight, umcomfortable truths, sadness and warmth. Can’t recommend it highly enough

Ecclesiastical Archers
I am over invested in the goings on’s in Champton and the Badsaddles. The story is a mix of murder, small village life and a bit of insight in to the life of a CofE canon. Forget audio books Rev Coles should turn this in to a radio soap opera, so I can have a regular fix.
