About this listen
It's 1929, and Ticky Maltravers is the toast of London high society, adored by everyone - or so it seems, until somebody poisons him over dinner. Now it turns out that numerous people with secrets to hide had every reason to wish him dead. But which of them murdered him? For Freddy Pilkington-Soames, newspaper reporter and man-about-town, the question hits a little too close to home, thanks to an unfortunate drunken encounter with Ticky's corpse which he'd much rather the police didn't find out about - and thanks also to his exasperating mother Cynthia's seeming determination to get herself arrested by tampering with the evidence. But a pretty girl with big blue eyes is demanding his help in solving the mystery, so what can he do but agree? Now all he has to do is hide the wrong clues, find the right ones, and unmask the murderer before the police discover what's really been going on. That ought to be easy enough. If only people didn't keep getting killed....

Loved this book!
The performance was very humorous, and didn’t know who had done it until the “reveal”

Absolutely brilliant!
What a treat! I am always a bit wary when trying a new series, and when Gethyn Edwards began his performance I wondered if I would enjoy his delivery. I absolutely loved it - his variations and expression is wonderful, and I even grew to love the lugubrious narration (I can imagine some people might not). I thought the characters were well drawn, and although I guessed the murderer fairly early I really enjoyed the story. Freddie, our hero, is less of a fop than Lord Peter Wimsey, say, and I grew to love him. I highly recommend this, and have already made a start on Freddie's second adventure!

Great fun
Wasn't sure I'd like this book, but found it to be great fun and thoroughly enjoyed the story. It isn't easy to write a story from this period with characters who feel authentic and to do so with a lightness of touch which avoids heavy handed stereotypes, but Clara Benson has managed it. The story rattles along at a good pace and Gethyn Edwards brings it all to life with his excellent narration. I am looking forward to listening to the next in the series.

Excellent
I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook; the writing is skilled, and the narration is exceptional. I am not normally a fan of historical writing, but I would highly recommend this book. Can’t wait to get the next book in the series.

Not my cup of tea. A bit dull.
After listening to the incredible 'In Darkness Look for Stars' by Clara Benson this book was a bit disappointing. It's an ok Who's dunnit but a little dull. I found the narration a bit annoying. I usually listen to a sample but on this occasion I forgot. Had I listened to the sample I probably wouldn't have bought it. That being said I didn't guess the murderer which is a big thumbs up.
