About this listen

Paul McGowan tells all (and then some) in this riotous tale of misbegotten success that’s 99 percent true in all the best ways. From his not-so-innocent youth growing up in the shadow of Disneyland and summer evenings in the innocent 1950s, to his dope-smoking, snake-eating, draft-dodging, loony-bin misadventure through Europe, to his struggles to build a thriving enterprise from a stack of dusty albums - see how the CEO of a worldwide company took 50 years to become an overnight success.

Unlike Paul, you may never get picked up by the secret service or carry the shame of bankruptcy, but you just might see yourself in his repeated failures or in his refusal to let life keep him down. You’ll laugh and you’ll cry as Paul describes the struggle of finding his place in a community you never knew existed. Through it all, you’ll discover what Paul did: life’s detours offer the best opportunities to find your way.

What a life story!

Amazing story of an amazing life. It’s not only about music. It’s about growing up, finding your way through difficult historical circumstances and personal crises that seems to follow Paul. But he is such an amazing persona and his live of life, music and family and his compassion come out of every page. Highly recommend this book. A bonus is the wonderful reading of the author himself

Entertaining and enlightening

Just so familiar with Pauls voice, mannerisms and quirky style, this didn't disappoint... Easy going and fun, just as I'd hoped.

Great autobiographical story by a top bloke

The candid and easy listening account of a life well lived. Entertaining whether you're into audio or not. Highly recommended.

I met Scott, Paul's son, a thoroughly nice chap also, at an audio show in the UK. I think the company will be in good hands going forward.

I aim to make the pilgrimage to Boulder to have a listen sometime.

A great life story and long may it continue

I've been watching Paul's daily YouTube videos for a while and really enjoy those so thought I would give this a listen. I'm glad I did :-) What a varied life that you simply wouldn't be able to guess from the YT videos. Thoroughly enjoyable and recommended.

Touching story of an audiophile

It’s inspirational and thought provoking listening to the founder of PS Audio. The memoir was very engaging and liked every moment of narration.

loved it!

I have always been a fan of Paul from YouTube.
I was expecting an audio book on audio but it was his whole life story. I was a little miffed at first, but stuck with it for a couple of chapters.

Wow, a writing style so warm and honest I am a person of shallow pockets, but my first audiophile purchase is going to be a sprout.

thanks Paul.

Sound Story

Interesting from the off. Paul utilised his on air experience to present his life journey in his own voice which make this feel like a visit with a very interesting elderly relative...which is a very good thing to have achieved I feel. Slightly shocked by the amount of drug use but he is a child of his times in that regard I suppose. Still managed to prove his stellar capability as an entrepreneur despite any whacky baccy brain fog...I am 99% convinced on the short hair wig story but would need a photo to clinch it! Enjoyable!
