Summary

From The New York Times best-selling author of the smash hit One Second After series comes 48 Hours, a nail-biting and prescient thriller about a solar storm with the power to destroy the world's electrical infrastructure.

In 48 hours, the Earth will be hit by a coronal mass ejection (CME) from the sun, a "Carrington Event" that has the power to shut down and possibly destroy the world's electrical infrastructure. To try and prevent permanent damage, everything goes dark prior to the hit: Global communications are shut down; hospital emergency generators are disconnected; the entire internet, media broadcasting, and cell phone systems are turned off.

Will the world's population successfully defend itself in the wake of the CME, or will mass panic lead to the breakdown of society as we know it?

William R. Forstchen is at his best in 48 Hours, a tale of the resilience of American citizens when faced with a crisis.

The end of a beginning!!

Great story but it ended at the beginning! It has scope to go further. I wont give away the story but dispite its finish, it could go on. A very interesting take on a natural event that could be the end of humanity on our world. Hope the author writes a follow up.

Worth persevering

Took me a while to get into it but I really enjoyed it in the end. Really felt the characters, plot and outcome. I am really picky about narrators. IMO they can make or break a book. Some of my most favourite tomes are ruined by the narration, which is my fault not necessarily the narrator, so at first I didn’t particularly take to this book, but half hour in I reloaded there narrator really suited the story - and I was hooked. Made me smile, gasp, and brought a tear to my eye at times. Won’t give any spoilers!

gripping and educational how would you respond

Really enjoyed this listen thought provoking and enlightening must listen. A true reflection of how things are currently with half the population lost in populist rhetoric and self indulging politics set to destroy our civil society.

Not as good as the title suggests

A pedestrian story, not helped by the over-exited reading style.
The characters are two dimensional and thus unbelievable. The science is worth listening to though.

Slow story but an interesting premise

I struggled with the pace of this. I felt it was repetitive and frustrating and times. I liked the concept and thought it's scarily believable however I zoned out at times. Overall I'd say it was OK, not awful but not for me.

Really good story

Good story, not overly keen on the narrator’s ‘Richard’ persona. Came across very weak.

Ps. Vocal Production let down by poor gain editing/ compression. Far to many inaudible phrases/ unbalanced voices.

A real end of the world story

A very entertaining yet realistic story. Chapter 10 really hit me hard. It felt so real. It made me wish that I hope I'm not alive to see an E.L.E.

I would definitely recommend this book. Its got prepping, army, government politics and geopolitics all rolled into one.
