日本を代表する哲学者・三木清による哲学エッセー集
「人生論ノート」は、1938年から1941年にかけて雑誌『文学界』に断続的に掲載されたエッセーを1冊にまとめたもので、刊行当時、ベストセラーになりました。それぞれの短いエッセーは「死について」「幸福について」「懐疑について」「孤独について」など、人間にとって普遍的である23のテーマについて、肌のぬくもりを感じさせる文章で綴られています。
機嫌がよいこと、丁寧なこと、親切なこと、寛大なこと、等々 幸福はつねに外に現れる。歌わぬ詩人というものは真の詩人でない如く、単に内面的であるというような幸福は真の幸福ではないであろう。幸福は表現的なものである。鳥の歌うが如くおのずから外に現れて他の人を幸福にするものが真の幸福である。（「幸福について」より抜粋）
＜三木清（みき・きよし）＞
哲学者。1897年兵庫県生まれ。京大卒。 西田幾多郎『善の研究』に強く影響を受け、京都帝大に学ぶ。その後、欧州に移りリッケルト、ハイデッガーに教えを受ける。さらに、フランスに移住しパスカル『パンセ』についての論文を執筆。 帰国後の27年、法政大学哲学科の教授に就任。この頃より、マルクス主義の諸論文を発表するが、1930年、日本共産党に資金提供をしたという理由によって逮捕され、法政大学を退職。この一件で公職を退き、活動をジャーナリズムの場へ移す。 ヒューマニズムの立場に立って社会に積極的に関わっていきながら、研究を続け、活発に著作を発表、独自の哲学体系の構築を試みた。 だが、1945年、治安維持法違反の被疑者をかくまった嫌疑により再び検挙・拘留され、戦後も釈放されぬまま同年9月26日に獄死した。 主な著作に『パスカルに於ける人間の研究』『構想力の論理』『哲学ノート』『読書と人生』など。
