Darrell lives in the Netherlands, not far from the battlefields of the First World War. He grew up throughout Canada, but spent most of his youth in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains in Calgary, Alberta where he studied Political Science & Economics, and thought briefly of joining the Navy. Instead, he moved to the Netherlands to complete an MBA. After a first career in the European equity markets, he embarked upon a new one writing historical fiction. His debut novel “Malcolm MacPhail’s Great War” was published in 2017, followed by “My Hundred Days of War” in 2018, and “A War for King and Empire” and “Vicissitudes of War” in 2020. His newest, and the last in the Malcolm MacPhail WW1 series, is “A Summer for War.” Darrell’s novels introduced the world to Malcolm MacPhail, an opinionated young soldier whose penchant for plain-speaking proves almost as lethal as the momentous First World War battles in which he finds himself. Meticulously researched, the books immerse the reader in the epic story of the “war to end all wars”.
