Anthony S. Pitch is the award-winning author of many non-fiction American history books that are true, dramatic, and horrific, leading to seventeen appearances on national television. A top-flight reporter who covered people and events in America, London, Israel, and Africa, he was described by the Chicago Sun-Times as a writer “who brings a journalist’s urgent rhythms and eye for small but revealing observations, along with the serious and extensively annotated scholarship of a great historian.” He has been featured on C-Span TV, The History Channel, Book TV, National Geographic TV, Associated Press TV, PBS, NPR, Voice of America, TV2 Denmark, TV New Zealand, Czech TV, and narrated inside the White House for Tribune Broadcasting TV. He believes journalism in so many countries provided the finest education into diverse lifestyles and cultures. Following publication of his acclaimed book, “They Have Killed Papa Dead!” – The Road to Ford’s Theatre, Abraham Lincoln’s Murder, and the Rage for Vengeance,” he was among six esteemed historians, including Doris Kearns Goodwin and Harold Holzer, who spoke on television about the 16th president. Subsequently he was appointed to the Advisory Board of the White House Historical Association’s journal, White House History. His Lincoln book, nine years in the making, received the 2009 prize for best book by the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference. Footnotes being the footprints of non-fiction writers, the author scrupulously cites the multitude of archival resources visited and documents gleaned for primary source material. He honed his writing skills as Associated Press Broadcast Editor in Philadelphia then as a senior writer in the books division of U.S. News and World Report in Washington, D.C. The Burning of Washington: The British Invasion of 1814 tells the stirring story of the birth of the national anthem. It was a selection of the History Book Club, which described it “as readable as a novel. An exciting story well told.” Twice optioned for a movie by National Geographic TV, it was read by President Clinton according to the White House and Associated Press, and received the 2001 prize for best book by the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference. Our Crime Was Being Jewish told the excerpted stories of hundreds of survivors who endured the atrocities of the Holocaust and was #1 on Amazon Kindle. Pitch followed this up with the unsolved lynching of four African Americans in 1946, after poring over some 10,000 documents for The Last Lynching – How a Gruesome Mass Murder Rocked a Small Georgia Town. It was also ranked #1 on Amazon Kindle.
