He is currently professor of medicine and chair of the University of Louisville Department of Medicine. Aside from his extensive clinical experience, he is expert in social and cultural factors as determinants of cardiovascular health, and gives useful insights on whether focusing on race can ever be important in progressing improvements in cardiovascular health.
