Story
Can two broken people release their demons, open their hearts, and find lasting love? Petra's strong, take-no-prisoners attitude is severely challenged when she's abducted by aliens, destined to be sold as a sex slave. To escape, she needs the help of the most irritating, hunky alien male this side of the Milky Way. Their chemistry is off the charts despite the fact that Shadow can be an annoying dick. Sold into the gladiator arena by his own parents, the only emotion this alien knows is anger. Until he meets Petra, whose grit, as well as her delightful body, sets him on fire.

Story
On the unforgiving planet of Dakkar, I did what all the humans in our village did: kept my head down, worked to provide for my family, and certainly didn’t break any Dakkari laws to risk inciting the alien race’s merciless wrath. Unfortunately, the same couldn’t be said for my brother, and one careless mistake brings a horde of the nomadic, barbarian Dakkari straight to our doorstep, led by their powerful horde king - a cold, ruthless, battle-scarred warrior demanding retribution.

Aliens. That's right. I said it. I know - it sounds stupid to me also. I'm a psychologist (sort of), so you'd think I'd be able to reason my way out of this mess. Except the reality is that I've been abducted to become their breeder, and it doesn't take an advanced degree to recognize this is all sorts of jacked up. But I digress. Apparently, these aliens are on the brink of extinction and need me and my fellow captives to repopulate. Yay us. I guess it's time to figure out an escape plan before they knock me up. I'll be back later. Hopefully.

We’d heard rumors about the Vandar raiders — everyone in the galaxy had. Terrifying and ruthless, they were a scourge on the Zagrath empire and destroyed everything in their path. Few had actually laid eyes on the Vandar or the notorious warlords who led their fleets of warships — and survived to talk about it. So, when the ruthless aliens boarded our ship intent on destroying it and killing the crew, I did the only thing I could do. I gave myself to the dark and menacing warlord.

I dislike people. I despise humans. A cruel mandate from one of my region's rulers has saddled me with a slew of little alien humans: I'm to put them to work. One problem? I run a rock quarry, where humans’ thin skin is a detriment to productivity. Overseeing these humans is like trying to herd yanaks. Steamy Sci-fi Romance
Steamy Sci-Fi Romance
Zar, the first book in the Galaxy Gladiators series, is a pretty explicit sci-fi alien romance. This was my first book by Alana Khan, I was pleasantly surprised by her creativity and her descriptive writing. The storyline is engaging with dark and erotic elements, it held my attention from start to end.
The main characters are great, they have depth and inner strength. Zar, the hero, was born in captivity and raised as slaved and became Gladiator and is forced to breed. To survive, he learned to lock his emotions tight. Anya, a human, didn't believe in extraterrestrial life, nevermind being abducted and waking on a slave ship. The being thrown into a cage with a feline humanoid alien and forced to breed. During their captivity, both Anya and Zar learn to open up to each other, lean-to trust, bond, and fall in love.
I thought Zachary Zaba did a great job with the narration and the characters' emotions. Overall, I enjoyed this audiobook, particularly the storyline. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

Sensual, emotional and oddly realistic
This is not your average alien smut. It is much much better. Sensual, emotional and oddly realistic in a cruel and as well a beautiful way. Worldbuilding, storytelling and character creation at it´s best.
A really talented author. So talented I suffered listening to bad audio just to have this story read to me. Which never happens. I am the first person to start whining when the audio isn´t perfect. Just ask Audible. The story is so good that at one point I had even convinced myself the narrator was good. Sure sign of hallucinations due to intense need to keep on listening to the story. My first book by this author, am already on the second book in the series. Highly recommend.

Great new author for me!
I hesitated to buy this audiobook because I’d never heard of the author, but I’m glad I did. This story is about a woman who wakes up in an alien slave ship and is given to a gladiator type to be bred. Neither of them is thrilled about it, but the only other option is death by the shock collars they are forced to wear. Gradually, they become closer and love begins to happen. The heroine has an idea to overthrow the slavers and escape using their ship. With much planning, they succeed, but the hero is critically injured during the battle. The story moved along fast and had a good plot with memorable characters. I wasn’t sure about the narration at first, but it improved after the first chapter. It would have been better with both a male and female narrator.

Great story
This was my first book by Alana Khan and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I really like her writing style as well as the pace of the book. Anya was taken from earth, along with other women, in the middle of the night. She was put in Zar’s cell, who is a half-lion gladiator, and forced to mate with him. After a mating, she would be taken to medical and checked to make sure they actually mated. They wanted Zar to impregnate her. How humiliating! Zar had a cold, unfeeling heart until he gets to know Anya. The two of them become close. In hearing Zar's back story of how he was treated and the things he was forced to do, I could not help but feel sorry for him. Anya turns out to be a VERY strong woman in spite of her circumstances, especially when she initiates the uprising.
I did not care for the narrator, Zachary Zaba, and had a hard time getting into the book because of his narration. At times the sound quality would get so low I could hardly hear him. The constant turning the sound up then back down again got to be annoying. I could hear him better when he did the female voice than when he did the male voice. I received this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.he did the male voice. I received this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Zar is a slave gladiator and Anya is a human slave, they are forced to have sex or be killed. Zar and Anya start to fall for each other and plan to escape with the other captives. Alana Khan does a great job with the story line and all the characters. Narrator Zachary Zaba does a great job bringing the story to life.

Wow! That’s all, just wow!
I love this book! It’s exciting and captivating. I’ve already made up my mind to read all of Alana Khan’s books.
I like the sci-fi romance trope of people taken by aliens and the excitement of seeing new worlds and encountering new dangers and the wonder of getting to know and even care about alien beings. I enjoy them when they are more realistic than amusing.
This new writer is a psychologist, so she understands well the motivations of behavior.
I would definitely recommend this book. It’s worth every star!

Book is good
I bought this book on kindle and love the series! So I bought the audible too because if I like a book I usually do this. The performance is by a new guy. I hope he can read better after this criticism because he has potential. Speak louder so I do not have to turn up my volume so much it crackles or sounds bad. Please slow down so I do not need to slow it on my own. Enunciate clearly please because it is almost mumbling/stumbling words. Your voice I nice and I want you to continue.

Great Story, horrible narration
Highly recommend reading this vs. listening to it. I loved the story, and plan to read the rest of it. I love to listen to audio books and can usually put up with a moderately poor narration but this one is the worst I’ve heard—would have given 0 stars if I could have. Kept waiting for it to improve, but it never happened, I will avoid this narrator on any future purchases.

Sound Warning - UPDATED
I finished the book and while I thought it got better as it went along, by the end I was bored and skipping through parts that should have been more engaging. I just didn't care and it seemed drawn out for no good reason.
I've decided I'm not a fan of Zachary Zaba's narration. He would be best paired with a female narrator instead of attempting to do female voices. Most of his female voice inflection and tone were either too stiff or just cringe inducing. I would strongly suggest listening to the audio samples for the books in this series before purchasing them.
Finally, I'll stand by my original review, the sound production is a hot mess. Even with multiple sets of speakers and earbuds (high and low tech), the sound balance is skewed to too much bass. Zachary Zaba has a deeper voice, but this production put it over the top. Stripping out all the bass, you can hear his voice, for better or worse, for what it should actually be during narration.
Original Review below:
I just started this book and I'm not sure I'm going to finish it because the sound mixing is really poor. The bass is way over powering to the point that I had to turn it all the way down just to understand the dialogue. This isn't the narrator's fault, this is sound studio doing poor balancing.
With Bose, Sonos, and Samsung speakers tested, I can confirm the sound mixing is a huge issue with this audiobook.
