About this listen
As a member of the Bourbon Street Boys private security firm, Antoinette "Toni" Delacourte is one strong woman, but despite her reputation for being tough as nails, she is haunted by her past mistakes. Now they're catching up to her, and throwing her for a loop.
Ten years ago, Toni kissed Lucky, her brother's best friend. Worried it would break apart the group she'd come to see as family, she walked away - straight into the arms of Charlie, and an abusive relationship.
For the past decade she's tried to keep her feelings for Lucky platonic - he's her friend, her colleague, and he's got his own past to deal with. Free of Charlie but unable to shake his memory, Toni finds herself feeling vulnerable and unable to deny her attraction to Lucky any longer.
She's always thought that kiss was her first mistake, but now she's wondering whether the real mistake was running away.

Best in the series so far!
I did a lot of random snorts of laughter throughout this book. Lucky is probably the most developed out of all the male leads so far and we actually interact with Ozzie enough to learn more about his personality too. But all of that is second to Toni, who is totally the star of this show. Her internal dialogue tops May's and Jenny's tenfold. Her journey from anger and self-blame to forgiveness is well crafted and the partnership that emerges between her and Lucky is as funny as it is sad at times. Considering some of the heavy themes involved, this book manages to keep the laughs rolling and the gang moving. If Ms Casey's trend continues, the next book in this series should be even better than this one. Can't wait!

The Worst Story in the Series
Without giving away the story and plot line, it's hard to justify this review. Suffice to say, the lead character is a real disappointment. After the first chapter, I didn't enjoy this at all...
It went from one stupid, implausible scenario to another. Toni keeps saying that she doesn't want to be perceived as weak, yet keeps doing stupid, weak, feeble, irritating and annoying things.
I listened to this until the end, for the sake of the series, but I didn't enjoy it at all. I'm glad that I've finished this. I considered it a waste of time. Time that I will never get back...
I'm new to this author, discovered because it's on my Kindle Unlimited subscription. But, having listened to the previous 2 in the series, I'd started to enjoy the lightheartedness of it all. Even though this is in the same arena, the whole situation is seriously stupid, in my opinion. I considered that it was a waste of a talent.
So, if you've read this far in my review, my advice would be: don't pay to listen to this - it seriously isn't worth it. It isn't even worth listening to for free...
