Summary

A sizzling lesbian romance about finding out what's important in life.

Beloved famous British actress Tamsyn Harris is in her early fifties and works hard to prove she's still got "it", despite her age. That means never revealing she's a lesbian, for fear it would threaten her acclaimed career. After an on-set incident blows up, she disappears to a retreat to lay low for a while.

Maggie Cooper is a successful author with two pseudonyms and suffering from burn out. It's hard enough trying to maintain both worlds, let alone keep them separate from real life. After checking herself into a retreat in Norfolk, the last thing she expects to find is the respected, beautiful actress she's had a crush on her whole life.

As passion sweeps them up, they agree it can only be a holiday fling. But is that enough? Can they just return to their lives and leave each other behind?

Contains mature themes.

Mixed feelings

I liked the premise of this story, but somehow it fell (for me) just short of a really good story. The narrator, whilst expressive, was a little too prim and proper in the tone she brought to the two main characters. I live in the UK, and people who speak like Julie Andrews are few and far between. And considering they were mature in age, occasionally sounded a little too girlish. It wasn’t badly written but if I heard that the dog in the story ‘licked his chops’ one more time I would have screamed. I don’t regret listening to it, but I won’t be returning to it.

Brilliant narration of A. L. Brooks’ already amazing book!

Below is my original review for this book and I just want to add that the narrator added to this already beautiful story! Her narration was soooo good! In-fact it was that good that as soon as I finished, I restarted it!

She got across all the emotions and made me feel everything! It’s going on my top 5 favourite audios this year and is now one of my favourites ever!! Brilliant 🤩

*** My original book review***
This is the book that you should read on a rainy day, snug under a blanket. It’s so warm and lovely. Tamsyn and Maggie are both flawed and don’t always say what they think. They don’t always communicate perfectly. But there are completely valid reasons why they don’t and that’s why I love them. I loved how Tamysn’s frosty facade quickly melted for Maggie and how Maggies fiery temper burned out quickly for Tamsyn. This book is HOT, as well as being sweet and funny and having the cutest dog in a staring role. I cried, I was angry at them both and I routed for them from the start. The supporting cast are all well written, interesting and contribute to the story. I’ve read a lot of AL Brooks books now and I feel like she has a Talent for making you feel exactly what the characters feel. I’m always so emotional in the best way.

I’m not crying you are. 😭😭

Wonderful Celebrity Romance

An actress and a writer both decide to hide out in remote guest houses in countryside. Tamsyn Harris is a beloved British actress who must take a break after blowing up on set. Maggie Cooper is an author who writes under two pseudonyms and is suffering from burnout. They both agree to a vacation fling but their relationship is magical. Can they be satisfied with that? Love the narrative and narration.

Well written book

I liked the story and the way it was developed. I liked Maggie more than Tamzin. In my eyes Tamzin was way to neurotic.
Narration was OK not the best.
