Summary
THE AGE OF DRAGONS IS OVER.
Uncertainty plagues Azeroth’s ancient guardians as they struggle to find a new purpose. This dilemma has hit Kalecgos, youngest of the former Dragon Aspects, especially hard. Having lost his great powers, how can he―or any of his kind―still make a difference in the world?
The answer lies in the distant past, when savage beasts called proto-dragons ruled the skies. Through a mysterious artifact found near the heart of Northrend, Kalecgos witnesses this violent era and the shocking history of the original Aspects: Alexstrasza, Ysera, Malygos, Neltharion, and Nozdormu. In their most primitive forms, the future protectors of Azeroth must stand united against Galakrond, a bloodthirsty creature that threatens the existence of their race.
But did these mere proto-dragons face such a horrific adversary alone, or did an outside force help them? Were they given the strength they would become legendary for...or did they earn it with blood? Kalecgos’s discoveries will change everything he knows about the events....

Cool Lore Bad Dialogue
The story is over all pretty cool. It was nice to get to know the characters origins, especially as a fan on the games.
Where it falls down is that the majority of the characters speak in a very primitive language. It makes sense, they are only just becoming sentient. But when you have to listen to endless conversations in broken English, it is a little annoying.
I also didn’t like the story split. I found that it was largely irrelevant to the story and only had me wanting to go back to the main story with the proto drakes.
If you like Warcraft then it’s a cool book to get a better understanding of some of the major players in the game. If not then you might find the story and writing a bit difficult to endure.

Not Great
Unfortunately this was not a very good audiobook from my perspective.
The narration was not very gripping.
Sorry to say I returned it in the end.

Narrator sounded as bored as I was
This is the first Warcraft book I have not enjoyed at all. I normally love Richard A. Knaak so I’m not sure what went wrong here.
Maybe it was the poor delivery or the fact that you can only describe the colour of a protodragon so many times before it becomes mind numbing.
I think a major flaw in this book is all Warcraft fans are aware every single one of the characters survives so it’s very difficult to feel any emotion.
Another minor annoyance is why would Proto dragons (and Tyr) continually refer to themselves as Proto dragons when dragons do not yet exist? Baffling.
