Summary
Would you drop everything and move to a town with a peculiar name, because an odd little man made you a strange offer?
Millie Thorn did, and she could never have guessed what mysteries and revelations were awaiting her in the magical town of Spellbinder Bay.
After witnessing a murder on her first day in the bay, Millie is cast into a world she never knew existed - a world of magic and the paranormal, and a world where it's seemingly normal to have a conversation with a cockatiel named Reuben.
Learning she is a witch becomes relatively simple to accept after discovering what other paranormal creatures populate the town, and with ever more mysterious clues about her life coming to light, it's not just a murder she must solve. She must discover who she is, and why she feels like she's been to the town before. Is it just dejà vu? Millie isn't so sure.
With talk of another dimension known as The Chaos, and with an unlikely board of directors running the local school - there's a lot for Millie to learn, and should she decide to stay in town - a lot for her to accept, too.
Did Millie make the correct decision when she decided to move to the bay? Only time will tell.

Very enjoyable story
I enjoyed this different take on a story about a new witch. I liked the characters and the setting. I felt the narration was smooth and it enhanced the story for me.

Lovely book
I really enjoyed listening to this, looking forward to the next one. Can't wait to see what happens next. It is a gentle story but a real (metaphorical as it's an audiobook) page turner. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Proverbial page turner
I listen to a lot of cosy novels, and this one has me has me wanting to proverbially turn the pages. Can’t wait to listen to the next book.
Well written, and the narrator is always great. She has so many voices.
Great listen.

A good cozy mystery story
I rather enjoyed this story, and agree with another reviewer that it is a gentle story. If it is a story that has violence, sex, foul language or racy dialogue and fast paced action that you want, then this one is not for you. Despite these "short comings" the story held my attention as Millie comes to grips with her self discovery whilst attempting to determine what happened with her murdered neighbour. The main character is likeable, and the narrator's lovely Welsh accent rounds her out nicely. Then the story finishes on a mild cliff-hanger! I'll be getting the next book.

Too insipid
These cosy types of books I listen to quite often.
I don’t expect a seriously deep plot or intense character development.
Unfortunately this one is just too weak from the get go.

Great narrator, dire book
Millie Thorn is, unfortunately a doormat and as such, not a very appealing main protagonist.
She is drugged (by magical means, but the effect is the same) into compliance, lured to a remote seaside town, where she meets a succession of rude and/or irritating people who go out of their way to frighten her, and she witnesses a murder. She is then drugged into compliance againe, informed that she is a witch, magic is real, the town is inhabited by all manner of supernatural beings, scared witless, picked up by the police while fleeing and told she cannot be allowed to leave (due to being a witness to the murder), is taken back to the creepy place where she was drugged and terrified in order to be questioned,
Not one objection to being drugged against her will, no attempt to fight back, other than the aborted attempt to flee...
Nothing,
She doesn't even tell the irritating little shit who tries to hit on her to f**k off, even though it's obvious that he's an irritant to eveyone.
A complete doormat.
And if you can't like or empathise with the main protagonist, what's the point of the book.
Not one I'd care to recommend other than to say that the narration is very good.
