Summary

Danica Waterhouse is a fully modern witch - daughter, granddaughter, cousin, and co-owner of the Fix-It Witches, a magical tech repair shop. After a messy breakup that included way too much family feedback, Danica made a pact with her cousin: They'll keep their hearts protected and have fun, without involving any of the overly opinionated Waterhouse matriarchs. Danica is more than a little exhausted navigating a long-standing family feud where Gram thinks the only good mundane is a dead one and Danica's mother weaves floral crowns for anyone who crosses her path.

Three blocks down from the Fix-It Witches, Titus Winnaker, owner of Sugar Daddy's bakery, has family trouble of his own. After a tragic loss, all he's got left is his sister, the bakery, and a lifetime of terrible luck in love. Sure, business is sweet, but he can't seem to shake the romantic curse that's left him past 30 and still a virgin. He's decided he's doomed to be forever alone. But then he meets Danica Waterhouse. The sparks are instant; their attraction, irresistible. For him, she's the one. To her, he's a firebomb thrown in the middle of a family war. Can a modern witch find love with an old-fashioned mundane who refuses to settle for anything less than forever?

Wokeness flavored

this was well enough written that i finished it but i couldn't get entusiastic about it. if you like virtue signaling this is your book. the male lead mentions his nissan leaf a bunch of times. so either he doesnt realize most of our electrical comes from coal power plants and the cobalt for those batteries is mined by kids in 3rd word countries in dangerous and unhealthy conditions or he doesn't care. kinda makes dog rescuing a little underwhelming. also when he said the thing about getting bullied for his male on male make out sesh in high school I kinda thought he came off like a soy boy. definitely was false advertising to put a bearded flannel wearing guy on the cover. and theres other stuff like almost no hetero representation and a bunch of other random woke try-hard stuff. i just couldn't relate or really get too emotionally invested

Truly a disappointment

The characters were poorly developed and weak. The love story left me cold and slightly nauseated. What could have been a good story was just lost.

Uhm.....the Cover is Cute?

I did not love this book. I did not entirely hate this book. As far as mediocrity goes, this hit the mark. The story was just enjoyable enough that I read the book in its entirety.
I didn't fall in love with any of the characters. Though after several chapters they grew familiar. The love between Tidis and Danica was not something I believed. I didn't Feel it and the dialogue between them was corny.
Probably my biggest struggle was the profanity and sex. It was like once they finally got to bang it out, that's all it became about. As though any opportunity to throw sex was desperately taken. As though it were a filler. I don't hate the idea of profanity. I use it often. In this it was way overdone. It was used unnecessarily in many instances. Such as a conversation that was had between Danica and her mother. Just why??
Anyway. Read it, didn't love it, barely liked it.

DNF

Did not finish. I kept feeling like the angst was totally fabricated and not on par with the situations. And all the times where it was “I’m not gonna go for it” then she went for it were just too many. I muscled through for as long as I could but quit with four hours left.

HEA

Well written and set in modern time so that was appreciated. However it felt like a book that was written in hopes of becoming a hallmark movie. No real hurdles other than the ones created by the main characters own drama.

hmm

I dont know about this one. I love witchy stuff. I love romance books. I really enjoyed the narrator, she did a good job. I just didn't love this book. I didn't dislike it. I just also didn't love it. I am not sure I will take the time to go on with the series. 🤷‍♀️

Cute story

It’s a cute book with cute story line. Nothing too crazy but still interesting enough to continue on to book 2

Well just not into it.

So it was so left leaning environmental characters I was like fine. However, I am a woman who isn't in to woke politics and was looking from an escape from the real world. I am too #superstraight for this bisexual mopey boy character in this book. sorry just not for me.

Wonderful and Funny!

This is romantic comedy with a twist. A magical twist. It is funny and heartwarming. You can’t help rooting for Danica and Titus. She is afraid to be with a mundane. She has been told that her line is cursed and that if she is with a mundane her powers will fade away to nothing. And her grandmother is determined that she marries in to a “pure” bloodline. And poor Titus can never get a break with relationships. They always leave within a few weeks of meeting him. He is afraid he is cursed. But the attraction between these two is of the charts. And when she does break it off with him she is despondent. She even tries suicide by cat. That is a one I have never heard before. If you want a quirky sweet romance this is the book to read.

And the audio version is great. I laughed out loud and had to rewind over the best and funniest parts.

Blah

The girl who narrates does a horrible job on voices and just talking all kinds of proper. It was just weird! As for the story…. Just no. It was too much, it was trying to be something other than just a fun story about a witch and a mortal getting together. I mean was this a freaking after school special about drinking and driving and everyone’s sexual preferences? Geeze! And it feel like there were so many loose ends left undone. Like something is up with Goliath for sure, and the grandmother just like gets to act how she does and the cousin was being a brat the whole time… like freaking A.
