Summary
Scholar and award-winning author Faith Fitzgerald has every reason to be happy: a wealthy, charming man who adores her and a family cheering her marriage prospects. But from the moment she meets Eric's sister, Sydney Van Allen, she knows her safe, predictable feelings for him are a shadow of what could be.
Openly lesbian and running for senator, Sydney can only succeed if she can live down her wild past. That means no liaisons, especially with the achingly alluring woman on her brother's arm who looks at her with confusion - and desire.

GREAT STORY.
This is a great story of finding oneself and not hiding from the past. How religion, family and homophobia can influence us all to hide in fear of being ourselves, our beautiful rainbow selves.🌈 Love conquers all and I was so pleased to get the happy ever after. 💖
Fantastic narration that was lovely to listen to, a must listen. 🎶

Romance or history lesson? Gave up
I very rarely give up on books but 2 hours in (~30%) and the supposed MCs have interacted for about 5 mins and I've had over an hour of history lessons.

Wow
This is my first read (or rather listen) to Karin Kallmaker and I’ll be definitely seeking out more by this author.
I was invested in the main characters: Sydney Van Allen, the would-be politician and Faith Fitzgerald the devout catholic historian, and her potential fiancee Eric who happens to be Sydney’s brother. Full of angst, drama and an overwhelming magnetism between the MCs this was quite unlike any other lesfic I’ve read. I was actually fascinated by the historical elements of Faith’s research and the parallels between how women have to fight for what they want and be true to themselves in life and love, and challenge this man’s world. Admittedly this is a book from pre 2000 and things are thankfully a little different now.

Enlightening
This was a very honest novel that in my opinion had so much more to give.
I'm not a spoiler so won't draw on content for this review. Suffice to say it was a wonderful story of love, hate, denial and misunderstanding.
As we continue to evolve as a species I hope our willingness to grasp new things will overtake the pernicious doubt that is created, in the name of religion and bigotry.
Enjoy .

Religion v Sexuality
To me having volunteered on a lgbt helpline this book is great, and more should have been made of it. It so well highlights the problems that many people of all religions face. Fitting your own feels against that of the religion you have been brought up to follow. This is so well written and narrated, I can't recommend it highly enough. I really hope out there somewhere there is a version of this book for all sector's of the LGBT community

Courage to be…
I loved this book for the exploration of misguided judgements and religious beliefs. Karin shows us that we can escape prejudice and control and live a life of truth, freedom and love. I found this book totally uplifting and enlightening and a must for anyone struggling within a religious faith to be who they are..

Thought provoking
It’s great that there has been some positive progress from the Catholic Church since this book was written. This, however, does not make it outdated but rather still provides some food for thought. I like that I come away with a bit more knowledge of something after a Karin Kallmaker book and this time it was about Eleanor of Aquitaine.

didn't like the story
the story was not for me, I listened twice but it just didn't grab me. But if we all liked the same things the world would just be boring.
