About this listen

Charismatic career criminal and Edinburgh antihero Aldo returns in this riotous, gritty, action-packed sequel to A Working Class State of Mind.

Aldo is determined to become a better person. His best pals Dougie and Craig and the four-legged love of his life, Bruce the Staffy, do their best to keep him on the path to redemption, but his lawless nature and chaotic home life propel him into a series of comical, exhilarating, occasionally brutal adventures.

On the way, he encounters a host of memorable characters and finds a new love. Trying to balance this romance, the expectations of his family and life on the streets turns out to be a bigger challenge than Aldo anticipated.

Can he turn over a new leaf and still keep his title as the toon’s number one gangster?

Who’s Aldo is captivating, tender, and laugh out loud funny. Imagine if James Kelman, Irvine Welsh, and Frankie Boyle collaborated to produce the ultimate Scottish working-class character - that’s Aldo!

I very much enjoyed listening to this. The narrator does a fine job of bringing Aldo and Bruce to life. It moves at a good pace, but by the end there’s a craving for more despite it having a great twist at the end.

I enjoyed the way Aldo sees Bruce as a human. It’s the dug who brings out Aldo’s softer side.

This is a great follow on to Colin’s first book and there’s a lot of potential in his characters. I look forward to the next one.

The dug is the real hero.

Well, that was excellent. I don't usually bother writing reviews but felt compelled to do so this time. Aldo is some man. A walking contradiction; Kind, gentle, monstrous....I love the way the book is read, with a proper Scots voice and I drank in the use of the Scots language throughout. I want to like Aldo, but his dark, violence makes it difficult, and I think the author provides this juxtaposition so well. Similarly, on the one hand he is like a modern-day Don Quixote, seemingly oblivious to the mayhem he causes around him, yet in the final chapter this theory is utterly disproved. I want more of Aldo, Dougie, Craig, Specky (who i think could be developed as a character). Get this book, you won't be disappointed.

Brilliant short stories within a wider landscape. Fantastic narration!

Follow up to ‘A Working Class State of Mind’, which I also highly recommend. I listened to Who's Aldo? over 2 days, it's one of them can't stop listening, don't want it to end books. Funny, witty and grittily honest with surprises along the way. Narrator is spot-on the best man for the job. Looking forward to the next one so very much.

Excellent highly entertaining experience
