Good as an overview
- By oliver W. on 13-09-21
Summary
In June 2009, Caspar and Nichola created a plan to sail around the world with their young children. Most people thought they were crazy. But over the past seven years they've embraced every moment of this momentous chapter of their lives. Five years of planning - the vision, the values, the practicalities, the realities, the excitement, the highs, the lows and the seemingly adventure-stopping obstacles - led to two wonderful years of living their dream - the magical and the scary, enjoying life and learning as a family.
This is Caspar's story. It's a story of a fabulous sailing adventure but it's also so much more than that - it's an inspirational tale for all those wishing they could do the same; it's a practical guide to show you just how you can make it happen; it's a motivational story of leadership and teamwork within a family; and it's a funny, heartwarming tale of slightly unconventional family life. The fascinating narrative of Caspar's story is accompanied by useful text features such as tip boxes, sidebars and chapter summaries, so that the listener can easily extrapolate the necessary nuggets about how they can make the dream a reality.

Self help/coaching book pretending to...
No word of a lie... at least the first 10 chapters (half of it) has absolutely no substance, mostly about agreeing shared values and vision. It goes on with this psycho babble repeating it's self over and over and over.
The vocabulary is limited, and the narrator has a monotone drone and a lisp.
More subjectively:
I don't like the way he throws money at problems. At the start he declares his objective is to earn 7 million pounds in a few years etc. much of this is pure fantasy. I also personally find the way he applies his dry management to his children, sounds just wrong.
On the other hand he seems to be a successful accountant, and had the balls to do it. The story is about as interesting as you might expect.
I also appreciate the fact that he took the trouble to write it...except it appears to actually be a training guide for his life coaching.
The most useful thing for those who wish to replicate this is the equipment list in the back. When he does get to anything of substance or interest he glossed over it.

Inspiring. Packed with practical how to steps
This is a well written, inspirational, practical and confidence building account of how Caspar, Nichola and their children planned for, raised the money and sailed around the world. As the reader / listener ( I also highly recommend the audible book) it is as if you are part of the crew on the voyage with Team Aretha experiencing the magic, marvelling at how they applied powerful mindset techniques, best practise seamanship and resourceful presence of mind to deal with whatever was thrown at them. If ever there was a guide to prepare you mentally, emotionally, financially and with the skills to make your dream of sailing around the world a reality, this is it. Thank you Team Aretha for inspiring my family and for providing me practical how to steps that have built my confidence and re-birthed my dream.
