About this listen
The idea that you have to be rich to travel the world on your own yacht is so universal that it goes largely unquestioned. The ubiquitous images of rich men on super-yachts sipping Martinis only help cement this image. This book hopes to change all that.
Rick's recent appearance on Ben Fogle's New Lives in the Wild chronicled his budget lifestyle and adventures aboard Calypso, and introduced the idea of budget sailing to a whole new audience - an audience who may have never considered the possibility that such a dream could be made a reality, on such a small amount of money. This book is for them and for any experienced sailors who want to cast off the yoke of consumerist yachting and get back to what really matters at sea.
If you are not rich, but dream of seeing our beautiful world from the deck of your own boat, this book is packed full of practical and spiritual advice to help you cut through the endless marketing and identify what it is you truly need to become a modern sea gypsy and sail away on the greatest adventure of your life...

A Must-Read for Aspiring Liveaboards: Rick's Guide to a Simpler Life
As for the book itself, it's a perfect blend of practical advice and genuinely life-changing philosophy. Rick takes you from dreaming about a break from the 9-5 to hands-on planning the liveaboard lifestyle, including the challenges of sailing, and the beauty of simplicity. His storytelling is vivid, making each moment feel real—whether it's a serene sunset at sea or the tension of dealing with unexpected issues onboard. It's a must-read for anyone curious about a different way of living, and Rick's ability to weave humor with heartfelt moments makes it both entertaining and inspiring.
Rick's narration brings this book to life in an incredible way. Hearing him tell the stories himself adds an extra layer of authenticity, making it not just informative, but also hilarious, impactful, and deeply emotional. His humor and honesty shine through, and you feel as if you're right there alongside him on each adventure. If you're considering the audiobook, don't hesitate—Rick's voice adds a unique charm that makes the experience truly unforgettable.

Temptation Temptation
The life portrayed in this book is like a box of chocolates; very very tempting.
Rich has amazing knowhow and years of experience of low budget blue water sailing and he’s happy to share this with his audience. He makes the life of a Sea Gypsy sound extremely attractive.
There’s a lot to be said for the lifestyle and as a life long adventurer i know I’ll be out there myself once my youngest has flown the nest.
Rick makes it all sound so doable and affordable. His book is full of sensible and practical advice which I’ll be referring to. I’d never heard of Rick before but will be following him on his adventures from now on !

Rare gem in a world of Filth & Greed
Unbelievably honest, thoughtfully & inspiring. Shines a light on what definitely were better times & highlights that there is still a slim opportunity to experience life without marketing, manipulation and censorship dictating your every waking thought.
Also quite funny in places!

Very Informative, very wise and Very enjoyable
I loved this book. It’s full of great information. The ideas he gives you that you don’t need all the latest gadgets to make your time aboard more enjoyable, in fact a lot of the time they make them more stressful. All the tips are priceless.
If your thinking of a life on a boat and your not got that much money, sea on a budget, this is the book for You. I loved it!!

informative, motivational, funny and well narrated
I have listened to this book twice now. it's jovial and written in a funny and relatable style. Chuck full of tips and tricks for any aspiring liveavoard or just aspiring sailor. only down side is there are a few things, graphs and pictures, that are in the hardback and it would have been lovely to get those in a accompanying .pdf , you up can find it on their websitr though,
