About this listen
In the midst of a bitter family feud, the much divided Rolland family is thrown together when news of their father's untimely passing places them on a red-eye flight from Seattle to Washington D.C. Although, they are physically close in the tight space of the aircraft, Rege, Mark, and Kit are at their farthest distance apart emotionally.
Until the unthinkable happens.
Two hours into the flight, missiles streak across the star-filled sky, the detonation of a nuclear warhead causes the plane to make a forced landing.
A family torn apart are now together living the inconceivable. Circumstances outside of their shelter are dire and the future far from certain.
America is devastated and crippled by the nuclear attacks. Rege, Mark, and Kit must chart out their path deciding what to do and where to go. What is right? What is wrong? Not only for the Rolland Family, but for everyone, survival is the top priority. Each day is a fight against the odds for water and food, while holding on to every ounce of hope they can live long enough to see tomorrow.

As the blurb informs us, the tragedy that follows is not theirs alone as they are just a tiny part of a post apocalyptic story, one which is treated by the author with a semblance of reality unusual in such books. There is kindness still mixed into the need to survive as well as death and despair in the "desolate world, grey in colour." And joy. It also raises the questions of how possible it really is to plan for such disasters. Sensitively and beautifully written, there is no happy ending but there is still hope.
The narration in such a book is even more important than in most, and Andrew Wehrlen's performance slips into perfect synchronicity with the text. A brisk pace, with expressively good intonation and individual, fitting voices for each of the characters helps not only to further breath life into all of the protagonists but also carries the story forward powerfully with emotion but never over-the-top hysteria. His reading is a perfect fit for the whole tone of the book.
I was very fortunate in being gifted a complimentary copy of What Tomorrow Brings, at my request, by the rights holder, via Audiobook Boom. Thank you so much. I had not previously encountered any other books by Ms.Druga but will certainly be looking out for others now. This is a book I can warmly recommend not only to readers of post apocalyptic novels but to all interested in people and their reactions within families and under duress. A masterful audio book.
This story has no happy ending.

The stories are always well thought out. I’ve laughed and cried to a lot .
This is my favourite narrator for her books. It took a bit of getting used to. He has away of breaking up the sentences that actually makes me listen better.
I prefer her longer books but only because I really get into them , I feel like I know the characters and Want to know what happens next.
Another great book by Jacqueline Druga
