Summary

Your husband’s car crash wasn’t an accident….

Maddy Shaw learns the life-shattering news in the most horrific way: live on air. As the shaky mobile phone recording pans over the terrible crash, she recognizes her husband Simon’s car in the wreckage.... He is critically injured, and she rushes to his side.

Detective Rachel Hart knows how it feels to have a loved one’s life hanging in the balance and hurries to support her friend. Maddy is distraught about her husband’s accident, and Rachel decides to investigate. It’s not her case, but if she can give her friend answers, she will. But she soon realizes Simon didn’t crash because he was distracted or because a tire blew. Someone made this happen. Someone who wants Simon dead...

After the discovery of a threatening letter buried in Simon’s diary, Maddy has to ask how well she knew her husband. Then a new victim is found - an old friend of Simon’s, a man he hasn’t seen in years. It seems a dark secret from their past has finally come to light.... The killer has a list of targets, and they are dying one by one.

Rachel must race against time to protect her friend and find the murderer before another life is taken. But however fast she runs, it seems the killer is always one step ahead. And Maddy must decide if she wants the truth - even if it puts her in the killer’s path....

A twisty and breathtaking thriller for fans of Rachel Abbott, Cara Hunter and Angela Marsons.

Irritating pronunciation of botanical F minus!

The book itself has a good storyline and the characters are believable. I would happily buy other books from this author. The narrator however is fine for ninety percent of the time but insists on pronouncing "botanical" as "bow tanical" which, quite frankly had the same effect on me as fingernails on a blackboard. I would listen to her again but with my fingers firmly crossed that nothing botanical arose during the story.

Ingenious!

What’s not to love about the second book in the Rachel Hart trilogy! A terrifically clever prologue leads us into an unbelievably complex web of deceit, loss, murder, and intrigue that quite frankly leaves the reader breathless. In one of the most original storylines I’ve read in ages, DCI Rachel Hart encounters a whole range of complex characters, beautifully drawn and superbly written as she unravels another extraordinarily clever yet disturbing plot. There are so many twists and turns that the reader believes they’ve solved the case only to find they’ve been led up a blind alley! It is heart-stoppingly tense, yet heartbreakingly sad and the author’s use of dialogue is exceptional. Running alongside the main storyline is Rachel’s own emotional turmoil, which was alluded to in book one but is now more fully explained. I was completely engaged from page one and this thriller totally held my attention through to the last word. I personally think it would make the most terrific television series, and I can’t wait to read the final book in the series.

Struggled to find anyone to like...

The narration grated but even if I had read it I found some of the dialogue comical. And similar names of some characters often confused a convoluted plot line. Once again I struggled to like any of the characters, don't think I'll be finding out what happened to Ruth
