Critic reviews

"Marshall Goldsmith is one of the most credible thought leaders in the new era of business." (The Economist

"For over a decade I have worked with Marshall in corporations and seen him teach. In my opinion, he is the best at what he does, bar none. He has that rare combination that makes a great teacher-thought leadership, classroom management, and presence." (Vijay Govindarajan, professor and director, Center for Global Leadership, Tuck School, Dartmouth University)

"America's preeminent executive coach." (Fast Company)

Yes! Do Read it!

I'm so grateful to my friend who told me about this book. After having read it - I think it is a must-read for everybody and not just for those who are involved in managing and leadership.

Very interestingly Marshall Goldsmith talks about 20 most common "bad habit" many CEOs have. I must admit I have found myself guilty in some of those, of course! And also interesting to look around, and see what does other do and don't do: including my peers, my management, senior management.
Most importantly, I liked recommendations and the ideas from the book like the concept of feeding forward and measuring our soft goals.

Yes, recommended !

Coaches guide to Coaching

Great coaching book geared mostly towards coaching leaders/executives rather than 'the common man'.

Thats said, there is much to be gained here, even as a non coach, particularly as Goldsmiths advice revolves around simply treating people with respect and honesty.

Just excellent!

So many books promise insight and guidance and I tell you, this one delivers. Chapter after chapter after chapter and without the endless and boring examples! I wish I had come across this book sooner!

An always relevant masterpiece

I read the original of this many years ago and gave given copies to several of my consulting clients. The insights and recommendations are really valuable and it's the sort of book you can profitably return to time and again

Fantastic book, well narrated!

I have learned so much from this book! The content is great, educational, informative and in some cases perhaps “common sense” that you never ever thought of. Studying leadership in an MBA programme, this fits in perfectly with what I’m learning (and experiencing in the work place). I’ve just finished listening to it and am going to listen to it again.
Highly recommended.

Quite repetitive

I found this book quite repetitive - the message could have been delivered in 1/3 of the time and became quite boring.
I had to finish it as I'm in a business book club and this was the book chosen.
I'm also a business owner and it's aimed at potential high fliers in my opinion.

Excellent read.

This book helped me realize that good intentions, when acted upon, may have unintended consequences. It's one thing to have someone tell you this, it's another thing to be taught how to realize that change is possible.

Informative without being boring

Lovely book. It was informative without being dry or boring. Definitely eye opening experience for me and I feel like I gained a new outlook on work and life situations. Can't go wrong with this one. Got exactly what was expected given the synopsis.

Entertaining

You will learn that you are actually succeeding in spite of these habits, not because of them. With Marshall’s systematic approach you will gain the clarity to free yourself from those habits that are not necessarily serving you on your path anymore. You will learn by making minor conscious adjustments you can take yourself to the next level.

"Simple, But Not Easy"

If more leaders were more mindful of the fundamental concepts, they'd get a lot better results from their teams.

Very useful

This is a very good and useful book. Different from many others business self development books, this one is focuses on protecionais in a more senior levels of their careers, it focus on small changes and opportunities that may have huge impact on your next steps. It was very useful for me to note areas of opportunities and flaws that I was blinded to.

Great read for those that want to learn from experience

If you are the type of person that likes to learn from other peoples experiences relative to real life situations, this is a great book. If you are in your 30s or 40s and in any type of leadership position, I guarantee you will find germs throughout the book. Well worth your time
