Summary

In business, the right behaviors matter. But getting it right is tricky. Even when we acknowledge the need to change what we do and how we do it, life has a habit of getting in the way, upsetting even the best-laid plans. And just how do we manage those situations that can provoke even the most rational among us into behaving in ways we would rather forget?

Triggers confronts head-on the challenges of behavior and change, looking at the external factors (or "triggers") - both negative and positive - that affect our behaviors, our awareness of when we need to change, our willingness (or otherwise) to do so, and our ability to see the change through. Drawing on his unparalleled experience as an international executive educator and coach, Marshall Goldsmith invites us to understand how our own beliefs and the environments in which we operate can trigger negative behaviors or a resistance to the need to change. But he also offers up some simple, practical advice to help us navigate the negative and make the most of the triggers that will help us to sustain positive change.

Fantastic

I missed the junction on the motorway twice whilst listening to this, first in one direction, then the other. So many lightbulb moments that have made shifts in thinking and behaviour for me. Probably the best business book I have read to date. Maybe don't listen whilst driving, unless you don't mind being late!

Best behavioural change book

Rhis books presents a few and straightforward perspectives on how we behave as we do and what we can do to change what we want to change. Highly recommended it to anyone who feels that there something not quite right with their life. Quick hint: There a whole lot more you can do about it than you think!

Triggers is a well researched and articulated argument for self improvement

ersonally I find The title Triggers is somewhat of a misleading title for a book , yet I can't think of a better hook to get one interested and motivated to read. The book makes an increasingly compelling argument for introspection and self improvement, which in turn affect those systems and people we interact with. Goldsmith invites us to examine more closely those aspects of our life's we rarely examine our beliefs and environment, identifying the triggers we auto respond to. He argues by creating new triggers (via questions/logs) we can self optimise and thus improve those about us. A very powerful outcome

Healthy

I loved how engaging the narrator is, you can tell he has been successful at coaching through his voice alone.

Simple techniques and thought provoking theories on triggers and how to maintain new behaviour.

So many great points to reflect on. Everyone can take something away from this book that will improve their life. The best thing is that they are all straightforward actions but have massive returns.

Unflinching guide to adult behavioural change

Lots of interesting ideas around changing your behaviour, with a focus on interpersonal behaviour. There's no pretence that it's easy but plenty of repeatable tips and motivators. A touch long but never boring.
