Our new home was meant to be a chance for us to start again; to make new friends and forget the past. And as I look around the barbeque we’ve thrown for our neighbors, I dare to dream that things will be all right. I watch my husband joking as he flips burgers and my daughter turning cartwheels on our sun-bleached lawn. And then my gaze falls on my son, Jacob, and his new girlfriend, Rose, in her light blue jeans and her green crop top. There is a worried expression clouding her beautiful eyes.... The next day I get a call from Rose’s mother that chills me to the bone.

Yet another brilliant book
As with book 1 this is a book that keeps you guessing, its an interesting tale and all the way through the book you try to guess the killer, The author intentionally or not does give a clue to the killer early I picked up on this and that person was my No 1 suspect. But I did continue saying to myself oh its him or its her right to the end when the killer is identified and it was my No 1 suspect.
I enjoy the team they work well together.
The narration John Hopkins is OK and he tells the story very well.
I'm just getting to the end of book 3 and that's just as enjoyable so can't wait until book 4.

I love the way Gytha Lodge’s books give you little hints that make you think you’ve figured it out, but there’s always more. By the time you reach the conclusion, you’ve been taken on such a journey, it’s hard to remember all your suspicions along the way. Compelling! Brilliant! Can’t wait to read the next one!

Not as good as "She lies in wait"
I really enjoyed the last book by this author and found the different character perspectives easy to listen to and intriguing. I did not feel the same about this book. The "police" chapters narrated by Hopkins were all fantastic, as was the story. As for the "Zoe" chapters I found both the storyline and narration difficult to get through; in fact, I just skipped past them in the end and was still able to follow the story in an enjoyable fashion. The language used in the other chapters was just over-flowery and I found myself listening to detailed descriptions of scenery that were not relevant in any way.
If you like the author, then give this a try and you might feel differently to me.

Solid good detective writing
I have really enjoyed this novel and the previous one. The personal lives of the detectives, while interesting, doesn’t sabotage or override the detective work. It is also great that it credits the team and not some “lone wolf” detective.
Great characters and will definitely listen to the next one.
