Definitely not bedtime stories

This Audiobook was provided by the narrator at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review.

Let's start of with the bland.
Warped consists of several short stories (some VERY short) and as always in such cases some are hits (for instance Sugar Daddy) and some are misses.

I am rating this book for an overall of 5 stars.
Is this one of the best book I ever read (listened)? Not really, but this book managed to evoke an emotional response from me, something that caught me off guard completely, so kudos are required.
This audiobook also managed to creep me out, blame the narrator for that.

So what is all this about? The stories, as the book title suggests, are warped. Some of them play homage to classic horror stories, some are gruesome (actually, most are) and many of them are quite demented and disturbing. Jeff Menapace mostly manages to stay away from the horror tropes making my guesswork completely off most of the time, and adding to the suspension.

And what about the narration?
Jeff Hays is either one of the best narrators around, or is a wizard with Audio software (the alternative is that he has a really scary split personality). The first time a woman was voiced I had to go double check if he indeed is the sole narrator (he is!!?). In a way, this was both awesome and distracting at first (how in the world is he doing that voice?), and the end result was just upping the creepiness factor - which in this case serves the book quite well.
Other audio enhancements (like drinking sounds, dual voices etc.) further improved the dramatization of the book making it a joy to listen to.

To summarize, if you're going to read this book, you should listen to it. The performance here adds so much to the book it would be a shame to miss out on it and while some stories are not as good as others - the entire experience is one of the better ones I had the privilege of listening to.

Would you recommend Warped to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes, it was a a fun collection of stories expertly narrated.

I think my favorite was the first sugar daddy story. Also the windigo story was fun although a bit predictable

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Great narrator. Some stories were great, some not so much. You can tell the author has a fixation with mothers.

Best horror/ suspense Anthology I’ve ever read!

Jeff Menapace is a phenomenal writer. He hooks you on page 1. I have read all his books several times and listened to them as well. His narrators are incredible. If you haven’t read Jeff Menapace yet do yourself a favor and buy everything he owns because the second you read 1 of his you will want them all. his books are so good no other books I find can come close to comparing.

Varied Assortment of Horror and Suspense Tales

There is a bit of everything in these short stories, Some are old fashioned paranormal or occult monster tales and others are great psychological thrillers that could possible happen.

I've always thought that scary stories like psychological thrillers that could actually happen are far scarier than the paranormal, and monster stories. Some of the tales are longer and more like a novella and others are only a few minutes long. Most all of the stories are very good. In some the bad guys meet their just desserts in others the bad guys prevail.

If you like this genre this is a great assortment. The narration was also well done.

Twisted short fiction!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys short fiction of the macabre kind.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The fact that they are short stories, and are all self contained easy to listen right through in one sitting.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Jeff Hays?

I thought Jeff did a pretty good job reading through the stories, so yes.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Would need to be a TV series, because of the short story form of the book, but yes it would be interesting to see on TV.

Any additional comments?

Good collection of pretty off the wall stories from Jeff Menapace, an author I hadn't read before but I will look out for more of his work in the future of these stories are anything to go by.

*I received this book for free in return for an honest review.

Good stuff from Menapace

What did you love best about Warped?

Such a good variety of stories. Jeff Menapace goes places that nightmares only dream about...wait a minute - is that possible?

Which character – as performed by Jeff Hays – was your favorite?

Liked them all. Still think his work on the Bad Games book is up there with the best!

If you could rename Warped, what would you call it?

Twisted Tales - Sicko Psychos - something along those lines.

Any additional comments?

I did receive this in exchange for my honest opinion. I've been a loyal fan of Jeff's books ever since the beginning. Read them all a couple years ago, now enjoying getting to listen to them.

Creepy!

Creepy stories but yet I kept listening! Takes an interesting mind to write these stories! (and read it too I guess) All depends on your tastes if you should read/listen to this or not! Not for the faint of heart.

Fantastic shorts!

I loved how he used some characters from his Bad Games series! Enjoyable turns in the short stories make you chuckle as he slam dunks the endings.
