About this listen
An idyllic retreat? Or a madhouse soaked in blood? Only the Walkers can tell you...
The Oaks is an idyllic, up-market country club—but its ornately carved walls hide a horrific past. Sixty years ago the house was an asylum, home to crazed psychopaths. One night all of them disappeared, never to be seen again.
Jack Reed, the owner of The Oaks, has no idea about the building's terrible history. It is only when Jack's son is dragged into the walls of the mansion that he realises what happened sixty years ago—and just where the inmates have been living all this time...

Shhhhh shhhhhh shhhhhh
This was one of my favourite books when I was younger so I was both delighted and worried when I found it on audible. Sometimes the wrong narrator can totally kill a good book. However, I’m happy to say that Andy Ingol is very good. Nice inflexion and great accents, he carries a great story so well that you forget your hearing it; you’re just living the story.
The story itself is immersed in Druidic Law and comes from a time when fantasy fiction was not something to be scoffed at in a book. I loved the creepy asylum setting and the strong, endearing characters. However if I ever hear a shhhhhhh shhhhhhh shhhhhhh coming from my wall I am running so fast, my hair will catch on fire. It’s a great story, well written and well read. Loved it in my youth and I still love it today. Shhhhhhhhh

love this story all over again
I love this story and often wished that it would be made into a movie. unfortunately it wasn't but the next best thing is that it's now on audible and the guy who reads it makes it come alive and I'm enjoying it so much. The way he does the voices of the characters is brilliant and I can imagine the scenes so vividly. love it

Twists and turns
Truly unsettling and very frightening. Good narration, very atmospheric. Not a classic haunted house story but a fabulous take on one.

What a story
Yet again I’ve been horrified at such a story which has kept me on the edge of my seat. What a picture I could conjure up of the oaks and its frightful contents. Looking forward to more

Oh my life!!!!!!!
Never would I have thought that an Author could bring me to such depths of breakdown! Along with the narrator, who brought this superb tale to life, would I have thought I could, yet again, feel such emotions! I am now on the search for another of your tales, thank you! I am bed bound and live 60-70% of my life in bed. Audible brings life to my life, and you Sir, along with your narrator have bought such joy.

Cracking story
I have not reread this book for quite a number of years and had forgotten how good the story was. A gory classic from Graham. Really enjoyed the narrator as well. He really brought the text to life. Have recently purchased 'The Heirloom' which is also narrated by the same voice actor. I messaged Graham on his website to ask if these 2 publications on Audible was just the start of all his back catalogue becoming available. 'Black Angel' is apparently due next. Hopefully more will follow.
