About this listen
Dylan Mitchell wants to get married. However, after seven years of being engaged, that’s looking slightly doubtful. After going through ten wedding planners, they’re gaining a reputation somewhat akin to Henry the Eighth on the wedding circuit. Gabe has vetoed symbolic dove releases, forests of flowers, fire-eating performers, and puce as a wedding color. He’s confounded an army of wedding professionals, and now Dylan, the man who knows and loves him better than anyone, has joined the ranks of the confused. Can anything please his fiancé and get them to the altar?
From bestselling author Lily Morton comes the sequel to Rule Breaker. A romantic comedy novella full of family chaos, meddling friends, sexy bathroom encounters, and love. Always love.

Perfect ending
Loved the story of them together in the first book, found myself wanting more. This was an absolute delight of a listen.

MM Short but sweet story
If you want a fun short read/listen, this is for you; you get all the banter we love from Lily's writing.
It is brilliantly written as normal, full of laughter and a great story.
The characters have depth, and so does the story, which is all helped along by an outstanding narration by Joel Leslie, but I did speed up the narration to 1.20 on audible.
It's well worth a listen. I would highly recommend it.

Delightfully snarky
I adored watching Gabe and Dylan fall in love earlier in this series, and this sequel to their story was just as hilarious, entertaining, and romantic as I was hoping for. As the title suggests, this chapter of Dylan and Gabe's journey was the build up to their highly anticipated wedding, and boy was it a rollercoaster ride to get to the vow making. Wedding planner after wedding planner bit the dust when faced with Gabe's incredibly picky preferences, and while I knew that stressing about the big day was the cause, I also understood why Dylan was ready to tear his hair out. It took a unique individual to cut through the noise and get to the heart of what was holding Gabe and Dylan back from the wedding of their dreams, and once again it was all tied up in miscommunication and mixed messages. I never doubted that the love between Dylan and Gabe was as strong as ever, but it was tested during this book in a way that felt meaningful without ever making me seriously worried that they would split up. I genuinely adored every snarky, sincere, and emotional moment these men shared with each other, and though I had my doubts I did actually get to see not only their wedding but a peek at their relaxing honeymoon afterwards.
**I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.

Phenomenal
I don’t know how to really describe the absolute perfection that is Lily Morton and Joel Leslie together.
Seriously, if you haven’t read Lily Morton before (do those people exist?), her writing is magic. Humorous, witty and snarky all while also being tender, loving, and compassionate. Her characters are extraordinary. And Gabe and Dylan are absolute stars. If you haven’t read Rule Breaker, you have to (yes, because this is a sequel, but also because it’s phenomenal). If I were to play the ‘which fictional character would you want to meet?’ game, it would be Gabe, hands down. He makes me laugh cry with every cranky sarcastic comment he makes. But no matter how cold he may seem at times, he’s got a soft centre for the people he lets in, and Vow Maker really highlights that. Because let’s face it, he’s a goner for Dylan. And why wouldn’t he be? Dylan is a firecracker who gives Gabe as good as he gets and both takes no crap from Gabe but is also a safe place for him to land. And doesn’t that make me swoon.
Honestly, they are magical.
And the only thing that is better than Gabe and Dylan on paper...Gabe and Dylan performed by Joel Leslie. Joel makes me completely forget that it’s just one person performing. He’s ability to capture the characters, the voices, all of it is just mind-blowingly good.
Vow Maker is officially one of my go-to happy reads/listens.
And if you don’t believe me now, feel free to believe past me from when I read it when the book originally came out!

Original book review:
This was absolutely the most hysterical story I’ve read (probably ever). I literally laughed out loud the entire time thanks to the witty banter and snark. Though this was completely hilarious, it was also underpinned by the beautifully steady and calm love that these two embody.
Gabe and Dylan have found themselves cycling through every wedding planner in the area, they seem to attract the wildly eccentric, in trying to get to the alter. This is becoming the longest engagement ever. It seems that maybe they are destined to remain engaged forever.
Through it all, we are reminded of how well they fit, how perfectly imperfect their love for one another is, and how important it is that they have a safe haven with each other. They are magical together. Gabe especially is an acquired taste, but damn if I don’t want to be friends with him.
I repeat I adored this story, and it will forever be the book I read when I need a pick-me-up.
Also, if there’s a petition for Joe to get a story I will gladly create a hundred fake aliases to stack the deck!

Fans of the series need to listen to this one!
Fans of Lily Morton's Mixed Messages, you're going to need to listen to this audiobook. Rule Breaker couple Dylan and Gabe are getting married! But in true Lily Morton fashion, nothing runs smoothly. There's laughter, stress, and high emotion - and the entire crew from the series make an appearance, so this is one best saved for once you've read all the other books first.
The audio is nicely performed by Joel Leslie.

The banter is back
I listened to the first book in the series while walking along the beach during one of the first covid lockdowns - laughing out loud. So there is a bit of nostalgia in play here and this book does bring some of the great banter back. It's a nice little listen but it never reaches the same levels of humour, sadness and character development as the first book. I guess that's difficult with the storyline. But definitely still worth the time.

The Happily Ever After I didn’t know I needed…
I’ve listened to every Lily Morton audio and so it took me a hot minute to remember Dylan and Gabe. It came back to me, though. How have these two still not tied the knot??? The back-and-forth emails between the two men alone are worth the price of admission. Lily cut her snarky teeth with these two. And the cameos from all my favorite men? Priceless.
Now, Dylan has a problem – Gabe has managed to annoy every wedding planner within a hundred miles apparently. Except this new one. Joe. Who shows up drunk as a skunk. Now, I’ve listened to Confetti Hearts, so I know Joe’s story. This is Joe before – which made things even more poignant. That he finally is the perfect planner went without saying. Whether he could manage to get Dylan and Gabe to the altar was an entirely different thing.
This book had everything I love about Lily Morton. Everything. It also had Joel Leslie as a narrator. He and Lily were meant to be together. They meld seamlessly as his narration just hits the perfect note every time. I look forward to more audios in the future and if you haven’t picked up Confetti Hearts then I recommend you listen to this one and then seize Joe’s story right away.

Glorious. Simply glorious.
I didn't think it was possible to love this little hook anymore than I already did, but I should know to never underestimate Joel Leslie. It's now simply perfect.

Lovely addition to the series
Loved it. I remember Dylan and Gabe's story having me in floods of tears. This catch-up with them 7 years later is a joy. Fun, sweet, and oozing with the love of these two have for each other.
And featuring the first appearance of a certain wedding planner.

Exellent writer
Lilly Morton is one of best writers i've come across, coupled with Joel Leslie's brilliant naration i'm either giggling, close to tears, or wondering whats going to happen next. Also its so enjoyable to have a book thats typically English! I wish i could find more of Lillys exellent books.
