Summary

Jackson Blackwell, the Shadow Master, returns. And lo, the multiverse shall tremble. Why? For someone dared to kidnap his daughter.

In this third installment of the multiple award-nominated (which we perpetually lose) Shadow Master novels, Jackson and his crew of malicious malcontents are going on a road trip! Er, well, space...trip? Look, this time we’re mocking sci-fi, so you know, just go with it.

While on a consultation trip to a sci-fi dimension, Evie Blackwell is taken by hired mercenaries, and Jackson is stranded on a remote planet. Using all of his devious and deadly tricks, Jackson must escape, assemble his team, and travel through space and time to find those responsible. Jackson will stop at nothing to prove his commitment to his family while wreaking his patented, comedic havoc in a way that only a man-turned-god can.

Follow this thrilling, hilarious, and oddly touching story as Jackson hops dimensions, fights the forces of light and shadow, and even confronts an entire pantheon of pissed-off gods.

Won’t this be a hoot?

Don't cross the Shadow Master

Jackson Blackwell, the Shadow Master, returns and this time he is taking on Sci-fi realms. After his daughter Evie is kidnapped, Jackson goes on the offense and will do whatever it takes to get her back. Good series that keeps improving, nothing is safe from Jackson's wrath.

Jeffrey Kafer brings these stories to life and the cameo from RC Bray was amusing and took the narrator and character interaction to a new level.

Bruh i was not expecting that. As usual A+ for the narrators ( Yes this includes Karren too...i agree with you Matt Damon rules). The story this time was better than the last and it had me on the edge of my seatvthe whole time. and after this I am convinced M.K Gibson is actually evil. well done sir well done.

To the Shadowmaster

funny as always.
I also like the fact that writer wrote itself into the book.
Will definitely give technomancer a look.

I sincerely hope there is a fourth book.

utter shite

as per usual this hack drills out the cheapest, easiest and most uninspiring drivel.

he thinks he's funny being all self referencing and self deprecating but he's just being cheap.

i loved it from start to finish as i did the other two :-)

A Villainous Masterpiece!

You will be belittled, trolled and pretty much have your intelligence insulted the entire way through this comedic masterpiece. Jackson Blackwell doesn't just break the fourth wall, he will reach out of your speakers and slap you about the face whilst telling you how stupid you are for buying the book!

The Shadow Master, not only trolls monsters, gods, demons, entire pop culture genres, nerds, you the listener, he also instigates direct confrontation with his own narrator!

I personally found this great, even with the twist, you can't be mad! Looking forward to the next one!

Fun as always

While I can't say I was a fan of the ending, even if it was hinted at in the first half of the book, this was an enjoyable story and still managed to get a few laughs out of me. Jeffery Kafer was great as always, and the special guest scenes were brilliant.
If you liked the first two books then getting this one is a no-brainer.

pretty good

I enjoyed it, but ending felt like a little bit of a rush job. I don't think it is as funny as the first 2 books but still worth a listen.

Amazing! Kafer and Gibson nailed it.

I’m so excited to be back in the world of Jackson Blackwell, The Shadow Master. Jackson is a villain, But not just any villain, he’s a god of his domain. Jackson works as a consultant to other villains.

In this story, Jackson is on the hunt for whoever took his daughter. Don’t mess with a villain’s family because they will come for you. Jackson is no different. He will do anything and betray anyone to get his daughter back.

Jackson talks to the audience several times throughout the story. Usually insulting some or part of the audience, which makes me laugh. He, as in Jackson, is very aware that this is a story being told and talks about prologues, epilogues and plot devices.

Jackson gives a series recap towards the beginning of the story, so if you haven’t read the first two books (which I would highly recommend), you won’t be lost if you do decide to choose to read this one first.

I don’t want to give too much away, but this is a fun series. There’s a ton of snarkiness from the characters. Not only does is have superhero/villain tropes, but this also has some space opera tropes involved too. There are also vampires, djinn, demons and more in this story.

One thing I MUST point out is that Gibson does add additional stuff for the audiobook listener. I’ve never actually “read” one of his books, I’ve just listened. I really felt with this book (and the second book too, to be honest) were written specifically for audio. So, I had to ask. He responded with “I write the ebook/paperback first, then go back to make small edits (or small scenes) that only work for audiobook.” And it works so well. So there are some great surprises for the audiobook listener. There’s one scene that had me rolling on the floor with laughter.

Narration
Deserves 6 stars
Jeffrey Kafer knocked it out of the park with this story. He really brings the story to life. I can’t imagine just reading this series. Kafer is the voice of The Shadow Master in my mind. I also can’t imagine anyone else doing this series, especially with the audio only sections. He really brings a special little extra to this story. He also doesn’t mind being the butt of jokes (if you listened to book two, Villains Pride, you know what I mean).

I guess I should actually mention his narration. Kafer is an awesome narrator. He’s great with both men and women’s voices. His pacing and tone for each scene is spot on. He really brings out the humor in this series. If you haven’t listened to Jeffrey Kafer, then I highly recommend you check him out. Check out the beginning of the book with the sample above. Or even try the sample on Audible, which is recorded just for the sample and is hilarious. It is gives you a you a great feel of how the story feels.

I was berated, but I liked it

Another adventure of the Shadow Master and his minions. There was many twists and turns, misdirections and of course, monologs. There was some big time 4th wall breaking, talking at the listener, and other little surprises. Can't wait for the next book

You fucking awesome Dickwads.

To be honest I have no idea what to say about this book beyond read it, then come join the rest of us in burning MKG’s house down except we don’t because we have to wait for him to evict The Shadowmaster and make another damned book about it that I will definitely read.

To The Shadowmaster. Fuck you very much and thank you very much. Your still very much a grating asshole that makes me grind my teeth every five minutes I listen to you. Yet you still are a bloody fun story. I hope one day I can meet you if only to thank you for these stories and to kick you like you did to that angel guy who I have already forgotten the name of.

To MKG your a great author may you burn in hell for this awesome twist you asshole. Make sure to either give us another cliffhanger or a better ending than the one The Shadowmaster gave star wars or I will burn down your house.

I think I have made my opinion clear. Read this book and enjoy it. The gods know I did, and it is for that reason I will give it Five stars along with two death threats.

PS Thank you Jeffery Kafer for bringing this pain in the ass to life. You won’t get your house burnt down... Probably. Matt Damon obsessed Box lady, there are people out there that will never understand you. I am one of them. RC Bray You shall always be Skippy to me, but you make a pretty good God of Gods too.

Another Hit for MK!

Absolutely love this series! The Shadowmaster is every dark thought you've ever had personified. Hitting at every contrived trope or over played twist but still managing to be imagintive and original is why MK is truly a wonderful writer! The narrator, Jeffery, makes these audiobooks! Nobody else could do The Shadowmaster justice! Can't wait for the next one!
