This was my first Susie Lynes book and wow, so very cleverly constructed and written.

Completely gripping

Trying to second guess a plot of an SE Lynes book is futile! Every twist and turn leaves you aghast. I think I’ve now read or listened to every title by this author and I can’t wait for more.

Take a hard pass on this

Story was weak at best but the narration was abominable. Terrible pronunciations with a nonsense Scottish accent. Neither west or east coast. Just annoying and made the main character seem imbecilic. I’m short. Grim.

Gripping read and I’m fussy

The plot might have been not entirely original, but it was still so well paced that I was gripped from early on and at the end it was one of those audio books that you find hard to switch off and continue with in bits. That wasn’t possible. I had to finish it there and then and it helped me tidy my whole house while not being bored. and that for me is a great climax to a plot which this delivered in spades. I’m going to listen to more books by this author. This was my first. No it’s not a book that will change your life for ever after reading it because of XYZ intelectual challenge, those books I find are not good for tidying the house to anyway. I like fast paced thrillers that are relatively easy listening to do mind numbing key boring house work to. This kind of book turns a boring task into a pleasure. I pretty much knew what was happening from the start way before the main character had figured anything out but that made it all the more fun to listen to. It ended too soon..wanted it to carry on.

I wanted to like this but ...

Having previously read Mother by this author I was really looking forward to this and I really wanted to love it, but I didn't. The story was quite slow in places, and Part 2 was just Part 1 from a different persons perspective and the ending seemed rushed.

As for the characters, I didn't really like any of them! Shona was supposed to be a journalist but seemed to question nothing. Ok she was a new mum and sleep deprived, but still! Mikey was just horrible. Even when he was being nice there was always something dodgy in the background. Valentina was just irritating!

I listened to the audio version of this and at first I found the Scottish accent difficult to understand but as the book went on I got used to it. The narrator did a good job with the Scottish, Aussie and English accents.

Great story

A little west end and criminal type story. Performance was excellent, accents, pronunciation. An Enjoyable listen.

Enjoyable, although a bit predictable.

Narration was brilliant. But I guessed the plot and outcome of the story quite early on, so spoiled the experience somewhat. That said, I did carry on listening, because it was well written.

I'm unsure if I would recommend this. I found the Australian and Liverpool accents so bad they were irritating to listen to. The story itself was quite good but I guessed the 'twist' fairly early on which meant it didn't have the shock value that was intended. I enjoyed the first two acts despite having guessed the twist, but the ending really let it down for me.
