Summary

Nikki and Everett jumped up and ran down to the water’s edge, the entire time scanning the shoreline trying to get a visual on the boys and see if lifeguards were responding. They saw no lifeguard but did see an arm pop out of the water. Nikki immediately recalled her water rescue skills from Navy ROTC.

The duo jumped into the water and swam hard in the direction of the flailing arm. Nikki reached the arm first and immediately pulled it up out of the water. As the boy’s head broke the surface, she saw Everett arrive by her side, and immediately passed the young boy over to him.

The boy was choking and gasping for breath, but alive. Everett held the child and swam for shore. Nikki dove down to find the other child but didn’t see him. It was not until her third attempt that she came up with the boy in her arms. He wasn’t moving. In fact, his body was limp.
