Summary

All David Flinch ever wanted was a normal life. But when you're a member of the Flinch family, normal has never been easy.

For hundreds of years, the eldest-born male of each generation of the Flinch family has been servant and guardian to the vampire, Lord Underwood. While the Flinches have changed through the generations, Underwood has remained eternal. David had hoped to be spared the horror of serving his family's lord and master, but when he is summoned to the Flinch home in Spain by his dying older brother, he knows his luck has run out.

After 50 years of slumber, Underwood is to be resurrected from the grave in a ritual of human sacrifice, and David, by right of succession, is to be his resurrector. But there is another Flinch, one who craves the role of guardian to the vampire: David’s sister, Lydia. It’s a job she means to have, even if it means making David’s the first blood shed in this new age of Underwood and Flinch.

Underwood and Flinch is a blackly humourous thriller of sibling rivalry and vampire horror set in a British expat community in rural Spain, with a sub-plot involving Russian mobsters on the Costa del Sol.

Underwood and Flinch was podcast from 2008 - 2012, winning the coveted Parsec Award for Best Small Cast Story (Long Form) in 2012 and 2013. This audiobook is the original podcast audio minus music and remastered for audiobook release. It also includes the short story, "Night Crossing", which serves as a short introduction to Underwood and Flinch.

I have waited YEARS to see this title on Audible

Before Audible, there was a happy little Website called Podiobooks. That is where I was introduced to the imagination of Mike Bennett. His stories grab you and pull you in. His delivery is wonderful and you can tell it is truly a labor of love, which is evident in the skillful way he crafts his tales and performs them for us.

I can’t wait for more titles to add to my library!

I can not recommend this enough

I have been waiting to buy this book on audible for YEARS. I listened to it back when it was coming out chapter by chapter in podcast format. It has everything you could want in a modern vampire horror type story. The action is well balanced with horror, humor, and emotion. Mike Bennett narrates his own book and he does a fantastic job as a narrator. I’m always a fan of when authors narrate their own work and Mike absolutely crushes it. It’s a fantastic story and has something in it for everyone!

outstanding

one of the few times were the author is the best person to read.
been following this author since the beginning, this is a really outstanding book.
This is one of the best vampire/paranormal series I have read! These books just flow perfectly they keep you wanting more and not wishing for it to end! It has the perfect amount of action, drama, heartbreak, and love! You won’t regret reading or listening to this story! If you listen to it the narrator is awesome and really brings the characters to life! who doesn’t love a sarcastic English vampire lol! The other characters amazing! Read this you won’t regret it! I loved it!

A modern classic

Mike Bennett has achieved what so few authors ever do -a masterpiece the equal of the greatest works of fiction in the English language. I discovered Bennett when I found his podcast reading of Dracula, the book I once held as my horror favorite.
Not only is he my favorite reader, but he has instantly jumped up the shirt list of my favorite authors with this novel. And the bonus, almost buy one get one, is, he reads this book too. Just great all around. My favorite quote from this book: “This is no time for trousers, Flinch. Let’s go!”

Bravo!

Just buy it!

One of the best books ever written. The characters are incredibly engaging. The story is well put together and fresh. The narration is absolutely masterful. … and I am picky, so that’s saying a lot.

Great Spin on the Typical Horror Icon

The first time I heard this audiobook was in the public domain of Librivox. I could not wait to purchase it from audible.
The story is amazing and the characters are easy to relate too. it's rare to find a book where the vampire isn't the antagonist but
Mike Bennett pulls it off in spades. When you complete this title look for his other works. One Among the Sleepless and Blood and Smoke.
