Summary

INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Passionately read by the author, Emmanuel Acho.

An urgent primer on race and racism, from Emmanuel Acho, an American Football Legend and host of the viral hit video series
Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man.

In Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man, Acho takes on all the questions, large and small, insensitive and taboo, many white people are afraid to ask – yet which everyone needs the answers to, now more than ever. With the same open-hearted generosity that has made his video series of the same name a phenomenon, Acho explains the vital core of such fraught concepts as white privilege, cultural appropriation and ‘reverse racism’.

In his own words, he provides a space of compassion and understanding in a discussion that can lack both. He asks only for the reader’s curiosity – but along the way, he will galvanize all of us to join the anti-racist fight.

Sensitive but delivered with aplomb & naivete

Emmanuel is a very eloquent speaker. I was certainly enrapt and enamoured by his skillful engagement in these uncomfortable conversations.
I enjoyed every bit of history that he brought to bear on the subject.
The naivete shows up in thinking that humans, on their own can rid themselves of the prejudice manifest in racism against black people in particular.
A very good listen and accompanying PDF was a terrific bonus!

Incredibly inspiring, challenging and truthful conversations

Throughly enjoyed listening to this book which is filled with loads of ideas, inspiration, learning and very helpful tips and resources.

It is written in a very candid way and invites one to reflect on their own perceptions around the agenda of race, racism and Black Lives Matter. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking to learn, understand and play a role in making our world a much better place for all races to live in harmony or maybe you are just curious to explore and learn about how you can become a good ally.

Utterly Delightful - and very practical too

I enjoyed, was educated, and was challenged as I have already been by Acho'ls videos.
Both what he says, but also the clear way he says it, makes for easy understanding. - and understanding is surely the theme he conveys to each person who experiences his ideas - we are challenged to listen, to take in, and to pass on.

Perspective is important

As a British Pakistani man, there is a lot I can relate to with facing similar struggles, however I never understood the perspective from a black man. I have black friends but none of them could articulate their points of view like Emmanuel does with history and context, which is very important. I now have some sort of understanding of what it is like for a black man and I loved how he answered common questions from white people. He also speaks so well in his interviews/videos, so getting him to read his own book makes it that bit better. Let’s affect change from within our own homes out. That’s how we can become allies.
