Summary

By following the White Man Commandments - namely, that winning justifies anything and everything - you too can achieve success beyond your capabilities.

With lessons on the value of shock and awe, putting compassion on the back burner and pretending racism doesn't exist, Think Like a White Man teaches you how to understand, overcome and overthrow the White Man in the whiter-shade-of-pale world of work.

Critic reviews

"Hilarious.... This original approach to discussing race is funny, intellectual and timely." (Independent)

"Cutting!! This book rewarded me with dark, dry chuckles on every page." (Reni Eddo-Lodge)

"I really can't think of any comedian, satirist or journalist (with a sense of humour) that has made me laugh out so loud and be so stimulated intellectually at the same time. No messing people, Nels Abbey has written the most original book ever.... It takes hold of your cerebral cortex then grabs your funny bone and it doesn't let go until the very end. Honestly. Even the appendices shine with brilliance. What kind of book is this? I don't know. Just read it and see how difficult it is to put the label on the work of a true mastermind." (Benjamin Zephaniah)

Hilarious but Unlistenable

I found the content hilarious but the reading is horrendous. I thought it was part of the joke at first but it just stumbles and bumbles and drones on and on.
I'm getting a refund and buying the paperback.

Humorous and punchy

I recommend this book. It is clever and powerful and while I intend to read White Fragility and Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race, I suspect this be similarly powerful and important even while using possibly less righteous tools (though both are good tools). Along the way the writer quotes, or half quotes or alludes to things said in the past in an off hand way. I hoped these hideously racist viewpoints were caricatures till I looked a couple up and was disgusted, if not entirely surprised, to find them completely accurate. This book was funny and engaging and provoked a range of feelings, light and deep. While obviously is quite tongue in cheek, it is also insightful and revealing about racism and it's internalisation. (I wondered it wasn't a little hard on Barack Obama, as he faced enormous racism in office, but can appreciate why others hoped for more from him.) Don't let authors slight speach impediment detract from listening, I stopped noticing it early on and am grateful he read it rather than anyone else.

The Achilles heel and direct result of W.supremacy

The closest a white person can get to understanding what being black is. Funny. Thoughtful. Amazing!

Gut Punchingly Exceptional

This book lays it all bare. The machinations of undeniable racism exposed. Flawless, devastating logic. An education for this white reader. Thank you Mr Abbey.

A must-read!!!

An incredible book of workplace wisdom by Nels Abbey. Don’t let the title of book put you off. The chapters and the experiences narrated are so true! A must read for the black professional and our allies.

Laugh at the absurdity of the system or go mad…Excellent book

How I love this book. I laughed and sometimes nearly cried at the absurdity of the accepted system here in ‘The West’. The author held up a mirror and invited us to see The Free World as it truly is…with humour to make the viewing a little bit less painful. I absolutely recommend this book.

A very strange book

I honestly don’t know how to rate this book. Made me laugh out loud in some parts but then quickly made me crash down back to reality with its harsh truths. Went a bit far in places but was also brutally honestly in its examples.
