Summary

Sometimes the world needs a little chaos.

Holt and Ash saved the kingdom of Feorlen against all odds. Now they are outcasts, alone on an impossible quest to unite the Elder Dragons. But they are children playing in a game of Dragon Lords. Trapped between the riders, servants of Sovereign, and the scourge, even their luck cannot last forever. Their only hope is to advance their bond by any means necessary.

In Feorlen, Talia faces a world unaccepting of a rider queen. Her councilors will not heed her warnings of Sovereign. Foreign powers threaten war and bloodshed. Pleas sent to rider headquarters fall on deaf ears.

All the while Sovereign regathers his strength in an ancient fortress. Enthralled cultists swell his ranks. Disillusioned riders flock to his cause.

And his unwilling servant Osric Agravain scours the land for dragon eggs. There are new types of magic to be discovered, and Sovereign intends to control them all.

Only the mysterious half-dragon Rake has a plan to stop Sovereign. To pull it off, he’s going to need a team.

Unbound continues this best-selling dragon rider epic fantasy combining the best of Eragon and Pern with the hard magic of Brandon Sanderson and Will Wight.

About the Creator

Hailing from the wet and wild west coast of Scotland, Michael enjoys writing stories as sweeping in scope as the ancient landscapes he grew up in. His writing is known for rich character arcs, tight pacing, and layered magic systems. Songs of Chaos is his love letter to the dragon rider sub-genre, drawing inspiration from the classics like Pern, Dragonlance, and Eragon and combining them with the harder magic systems of Branden Sanderson and Will Wight, creating an epic tale all ages can enjoy.
Michael is also ‘that guy’ who enjoys-well, enjoyed-discussing the mad fan theories of Game of Thrones even more than the books or show, and knows more about World of Warcraft than is probably healthy.

About the Performer

Peter has been recording short stories, abridged, and unabridged audiobooks since 1993 and has recorded upwards of 300 titles from authors as diverse as Iain M Banks, Andrzej Sapkowski, Claire North, Neill Gaiman, Kate Atkinson, Mo Hayder, and Robert Louis Stevenson. His recordings cover a wide range from factual, technical books through historical fiction and science fiction, to mystery thrillers, epic fantasy and biographies. His first recorded short story was "Ansell" by EM Forster for the BBC. Most recent recordings include: Ascension by Nicholas Binge, Defiant (Songs of Chaos Book III)by Michael R. Miller, and in the shortly to be recorded list, The Observant Walker by John Wright and The Prophet & The Idiot by Jonas Johnasson.

Not nearly as good as the first

I really loved the first book, but this book splits the POV between three main characters. One of these characters is very hard to relate too and is the rider of the big bad evil Dragon. I found these chapters borderline unbearable to listen too, and I hated every second. I don't understand why I would be expected to care about the POV of this character when there are brilliantly written characters such as Holt and Ash. I loved some chapters of this book and hated others. Overall a decent sequel to the first, but not nearly as gripping. The narrator does a great job though!

Amazing but not as good as the first!

Sadly I did not enjoy this one as much as the first book. First one had a good sense of foreboding and build up for me that this one just lacked. Nevertheless it is still an amazing story and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it! Looking forward to listening to the third book to see how all the character progress!

Amazing

This is exactly what I’ve missed. I haven’t read many books since my youth reading Harry Potter. And this gripped me so hard, I’ve laughed with the characters and felt bad for them. Such a good book!

A great continuation of the series

A great continuation of the series, and a great overall introduction to dragon fantasy. The stakes could have been higher the the climatic battle and more lost however it did feel earned through the story so not disappointing at all.

Great series

This is a really good dragon/rider series.

Well written but with a few remaining errors that an editor should have spotted. Apart from that the main (petty) peeve I have with the books is that places have names like the 'grim gorge', 'searing sands', 'withering woods', 'sable spire', etc. For me those names make it feel more like an Enid Blyton children's book than a YA novel.

It's still a good story though, with interesting characters and a decent magic system. I'm off to buy the next book now :D

Really Enjoyed

A good fun listen, well considered fantasy elements. Really love the world it’s set in and the balance between the magical and political aspects of it - done in a believable fashion… if dragons and riders were real. Also beautifully narrated.
