About this listen

At 38, Zavier “Cade” McCade has it all: a military career he can be proud of, a successful business, and a close-knit group of family and friends. A former Army Special Forces captain, Cade leaves the military to create Custos Securities, a burgeoning protection agency that provides unparalleled security for both civilians and corporations across the US.

After a string of disastrous relationships - and a narrow escape from an abusive partner - Braden Cross is finally putting his past to rest. Combining both his passion for baking and his knack for business, Braden owns the Sugar n' Spice Cafe with his best friend, who concocts exotic coffees and teas that pair perfectly with his decadent confections.

When a stalker sets his sights on Braden, the young pastry chef's world is turned upside down. More frightened than he cares to admit and not knowing where to turn, Braden is relieved when Cade steps in to offer his protection. Caught up in a maelstrom of threats, break-ins, and vandalism, the two draw closer together.

Braden eventually realizes he can trust Cade with his life, but he finds himself wondering...can he trust him with his heart?

Contains mature themes.

Enjoyable, but narrator

Enjoyable and story stops suddenly at the end, ready for book 2.

The narrator isn't the best, monotone no emotion, deffo should have had 2 narrators.

brilliant

Loved it . Tristan narration of this book was beautiful.
Braden and Cade had gone through so much.
This is left with a cliff hanger

Care and love

Good start of a new series. These men are amazing. I just love Braden his determination and sweet core. 'Cade' is just a big caretaker who needs to let his man in.
Narration is a bit stilted and could be livelier .

Enjoyable book

I liked the book. I liked the storyline and characters. I think some reviewers might not realise that the author tends to write some books that have daddy/boy themes. Although this book isn't one of them, it still has that kind of vibe. In her books, the men are overprotective and instantly attracted. I didn't think Braden acted like a 'girl', especially when he kept trying to stand up for himself and those he loved. Cade's method of trying to take care of Braden and protect him is in line with the author's daddy/boy books, so it is best to avoid those if you find being overprotective and instant attraction 'creepy' and like a 'caveman'. Ordinarily , I would steer clear of book that are narrated by Tristan James because he usually sounds a little too old for some characters. I decided, however, to take a chance this time after hearing the sample of the book. I am glad I did because his voice worked with the characters. It is possible that a different narrator could have added a little more emotion to the characters but I personally didn't have a problem with the narration. I have mixed feelings regarding the ending of the book. Although it ended on a cliffhanger, the book stopped rather abruptly. I was expecting a few more sentences, at least, when the narrator suddenly reading the closing credits. This, however, didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book.

Better narration than led to believe

Listening in shorter sessions the narration wasn’t as monotonous as some reviewers stated but in longer spans it does become a little draining. And some moments it didn’t quite fit Braden, however I did enjoy the story overall.
I read this series a while back and picked it because I wanted to listen to something undemanding.

Very slow burn

Just don't be in a hurry with this one, slow burn, dnf when it got to Chapter 18. Sorry but you have a team of protection but you want to go on your own, because you have to protect them from the guy who wants to kill blah blah blah..please it's called Trusting Cade...

Maybe it's a nice story

I did not finish this novel because of the narration. It seems like Tristan James realy disliked reading it, so uninspired was his performance. Not having the option to skip rating the story, I gave it an average rate.

Ridiculous

I had to suspend disbelief for this story. I'm fine with insta love, but this book pushed my eye roll limits.
Braden has a stalker. His business partners brother Cooper runs a security company. Coopers business partner Cade falls for Braden on sight. He offers free security detail and to find the stalker. As the story procceds and the stalker damages Braden's property, Cade steps in to fix everything for (a stranger he's just met) for FREE-new security system, new window, new bed and bedding, new tyres and paint job on Braden's car. As well as virtually babying Braden 'to protect him', and 'for his own good ' Cade doesn't think Braden is man enough to cope with the truth about his stalker. This story could have been good, but the 'i must protect' caveman bs was too much, not romantic and just as creepy as the stalker's behaviour. Cade's reactions to Braden's situation became so far removed from logic that I had to laugh.
Poor Tristan James having to read this.

Disappointed

This book is nothing like the cover, the cover looks great but the book is very disappointing. Is Braden a man or a little girl.

If I could give negative number of stars, I would

I ended up hate listening to the whole thing as I couldn’t believe how rubbish the characters and story telling actually are. I know MM romances written by and largely for women tend to the over romantic and improbable in terms of character behaviour and motivation, but this takes the biscuit. No human adult man ever would behave anything like these two. And after you sit thru all the sap, the only vaguely dramatic thing fizzles out with no conclusion. Do not pay for this. If it’s included, fine hate listen yourself. It seems she wrote it in 2016, so perhaps she’s her work has gotten better with time. But this….this was bad.
