Summary

When Cherringham's Council debates selling the historic village hall for development as a luxury restaurant and hotel, all of Cherringham is up in arms; some seeing the sale as needed, others deeply opposed. For many, the centuries-old hall is the very heart of the community! But when the leader of the protestors is attacked after a raucous meeting and death threats are made, Jack and Sarah are asked to investigate. Can they find a possible killer before the crucial Council vote? And maybe stop a murder?

Set in the sleepy English village of Cherringham, the detective series brings together an unlikely sleuthing duo: English web designer Sarah and American ex-cop Jack. Thrilling and deadly - but with a spot of tea - it's like Rosamunde Pilcher meets Inspector Barnaby. Each of the self-contained episodes is a quick read for the morning commute, while waiting for the doctor, or when curling up with a hot cuppa.

Co-authors Neil Richards (based in the UK) and Matthew Costello (based in the US), have been writing together since the mid 90's, creating content and working on projects for the BBC, Disney Channel, Sony, ABC, Eidos, and Nintendo to name but a few. Their transatlantic collaboration has underpinned scores of TV drama scripts, computer games, radio shows, and the successful crime fiction series Cherringham.

The narrator of the audiobook, Neil Dudgeon, has been in many British television programmes including the roles of 'DCI John Barnaby' in 'Midsomer Murders' and 'Jim Riley' in 'The Life of Riley'. He is also known for his film roles in 'The Nativity', 'Sorted' and 'Son of Rambow'. In 2012 Dudgeon starred as 'Norman Birkett' on BBC Radio 4's Afternoon Play series written by Caroline and David Stafford.

Oh dear, ah well!

Sadly it had to happen, the desperation for a plot,is all too evident ! What with the confusion of which chapter is already in ones library, and which of these,is before the American returns from wherever he went to, and the kids had guinea pigs, or Sarah and the ‘New York cop’ hardly know each other, I don’t know where I am! Perhaps when they were compilations, it took the burden off the author, to have good plots, all the time, or it could be, I have grown out of Cherringham, yes I know Archers + Agatha C + the extra ingredient, but I don’t think it is that, I sense the author is bored, this really is the pits, sorry, and they were so good, once, perfect for a long journey or a sleepless night, ah well.
And even, should I wishy to buy another, it is so confusing, its a waste of time, sorry, it feels a bit like criticising a 100 year old man, whose raised £40 million , but I would never do that!!

Wonderful light mystery.

A good listen with great characters and continuity over the whole series. Well narrated by Neil Dudgeon.
Audible - please continue to put Cherringham into sets of 3 stories. I don’t know why you stopped at 29.
Thanks

Great!

As always, Cherringham never fails to delight. Jack and Sarah are a wonderful duo, investigating crimes that are intriguing rather than harrowing. This episodes is up to the best of standards and is a gripping night - time listen. Neil Dudgeon is once again the best narrator possible, please don't ever change him. Looking forward to the next......

An enjoyable series

Very pleasant series. I bought the compendium of books 1 -3 and found myself enthralled by the writing and gripped by the storyline. Just right to provide relief in a time of lockdown. Neil Dudgeon is excellent as the narrator. Each book is easy to listen too. I found listening was relaxing as the stories are gentle bringing in characters from the village in subsequent books. Once started I found I had to get the next one to see how Jack and Sarah progressed in their sleuthing. An excellent listen worthy of a return.
I hope book 35 is not the last one.

Sad

When will they finish the series properly instead of ending in thin air and leaving us in limbo.
