Summary

The isolated, sleepy little village of Timber Falls—built on the bend of a swift mountain river—swells during the summer months as tourists flock to town to run the river, lured there by the Class IV and Class V rapids.

A gruesome murder of a college student—a river rat—brings the FBI to town.

Haley Martin used to be one of those river rats during her college years. Now she owns the Timber Falls Bar and Grill, drawn back to the picturesque village seven years ago after the tragic death of her wife.

Lynn Carter, a disgraced LAPD detective, was offered an out—a position on a team of unorthodox FBI agents. After a month of training, she was sent out on her own without a team or a partner. Her commander, nothing more than a mysterious voice on the phone, dished out assignments.

When he sent her to Timber Falls—a town by only the stretch of the imagination—she had no idea she would find her peace there. No idea she might find love.

But a serial killer preying on the tourists that the town relies on for survival takes precedence as clues lead her to an unlikely suspect.

Repetitive…

I love Gerri Hill she is very talented, unfortunately I feel that her stories/books are basically the same story with different settings and it is feeling very repetitive. Abby Craden again I have enjoyed her narration on several books but I feel she recycling the voices for every book. I’m not hating on them as I respect them both and they are very talented this is merely constructive criticism. Switch it up Ladies!

Fabulous book

I am not often found writing a full review, but this book has compelled me to do so. I love the way the two women are weaved together. I also love the links made to characters from previous books, contrary to what other reviews have expressed. It was fresh and beautiful. Thank you Gerri for another wonderful work of art in this world so full of angst - a wonderful retreat - when two women find each other despite the circumstances of their meeting and their own personal challenges. Keep it up, just love your books that link the characters, helps bring fiction to life and seated in reality.

I'm a sucker for Gerri Hill

Timber Falls is a lovely little thriller you shouldn't miss out on! I've basically read everything Gerri Hill has written and she rarely disappoints, you know what you're getting with Hill and she delivers it here.

Not Gerri at her best but good nonetheless

I wonder if this audiobook may have been impacted by Covid-19 illness, lockdowns and the like?

Don't get me wrong, this is a sweet love story that runs alongside a well plotted, interesting detective mystery. However, by Gerri Hill's very high standards it does not quite hit the mark. In addition to deliberate links to some of her previous books parts of the plot sound a little too similar. Also, notably missing is one of the elements I usually love about Gerri's books, her great descriptions of the landscape where she locates her story. Usually this inspires a level of description that brings the landscape to life as if it were a character in its own right, but not so much here. The story of the two characters who fall in love is more linear than a usual Gerri Hill and lacks much of the will they, won't they tension that she brings to the best of her work.

Abby Craden also falls short of her normally accomplished narration and does not do her normally good job of creating different voices for each of the characters so that it is easy for the listener to tell who is speaking.

genre

in the saphfic cops genre it's very good but romance only it's 4☆ and no Teddy bear or dog.
I love Gerri Hills' saphfic books, and obviously Abby does too, as her performance reading them shows.
still worth buying

Loved the story and good narrator. Simple story line but very enjoyable. Looking forward to next story by Gerri Hill.

Lesbian Romance not muder mystery

The muder plot was slow and relied on conversations rather than action to move it forward. Dialogue was repetitive with characters returning endlessly to the dame issues which had nothin to do either murder. Then suddenly, side field, a motive is manufactured from someone ‘s past. Really poor.

Another good one!

Nice easy listen. Had small links to the book before that I liked. (but you wouldn't need to listen/read that before this) Story was good. Abby craden was awesome as always.

Fabulous story but

As ever Gerri Hills storytelling is first rate the M C's are well developed and have satisfying story arcs. However this is the second time she has used a trope which is problematic for the trans community. After messaging Gerri I am convinced no transohobia was intended the ishue is still there. Sill an excellent read and well worth the credits!
