Summary

The eighth novel in James S. A. Corey's New York Times best-selling Expanse series - now a major television series.

Thirteen hundred gates have opened to solar systems around the galaxy. But as humanity builds its interstellar empire in the alien ruins, the mysteries and threats grow deeper.

In the dead systems where gates lead to stranger things than alien planets, Elvi Okoye begins a desperate search to discover the nature of a genocide that happened before the first human beings existed and to find weapons to fight a war against forces at the edge of the imaginable. But the price of that knowledge may be higher than she can pay.

At the heart of the empire, Teresa Duarte prepares to take on the burden of her father's godlike ambition. The sociopathic scientist Paolo Cortázar and the Mephistophelian prisoner James Holden are only two of the dangers in a palace thick with intrigue, but Teresa has a mind of her own and secrets even her father, the emperor, doesn't guess.

And throughout the wide human empire, the scattered crew of the Rocinante fights a brave rear-guard action against Duarte's authoritarian regime.

Memory of the old order falls away, and a future under Laconia's eternal rule - and with it, a battle that humanity can only lose - seems more and more certain. Because against the terrors that lie between worlds, courage and ambition will not be enough....

Expanse the Eighth

The eighth and penultimate Expanse novel is well worth the wait. Some interesting new characters are introduced, and some familiar faces return from novels past; plus the usual Rocinante crew, though scattered, are all present and correct.
Much better than Persepolis Rising, you can feel the momentum building towards the finale due in book nine; which promises lots.
(I cannot say too much in this review because, trust me, you really don't want any spoilers... But I assume that if you've stuck with it for seven books already that you're going to get this one!)
So stop reading reviews and just download it already!

PS Jefferson Mays is, as always, fantastic.

What a story

This book of the series has more twists in it than a grandma who slept on the stairs. I literally could not stop listening. The deaths, the reunions, the drama. Brilliant, just brilliant.

Just...

... bloody awesome. The last book struggled a little due to the time jump, but did serve well in moving all of the pieces around in preparation for the story getting back into full swing. This book, everything is back to full speed and it's brilliant. Perfectly read by Jefferson Mays.

Brilliant book

Another great book from an outstanding series, second time I've listened to it and still just as gripping. Excellent narrator. Can't wait till October for last book.

Have to wait now for the last installment!

As a massive fan of the TV show, I can say that the books are equally good and this latest adds very well to the saga. I just hope that as well as audio books Amazon will put all the series to the small screen. Just have to wait now for the final installment, please not too long!!!

Amazing

Jefferson Mays does it again. I cannot imagine even reading this book on paper, since for me, after 8 books, his voice is half of it. Without his voice, it wouldn’t be the Expanse. Obviously, the book is as amazing as the previous were and I have no idea how any ending will ever do justice to such a series. Two years to wait for the last book in the series is just way too long!
