Summary
Part manual and part memoir, Jenniffer Weigel pulls back the curtain of her life and shares how getting a divorce and moving away from her "white picket fence" dream actually helped her gain a greater awareness and happiness. Her sense of humor reminds us that even though staying on the spiritual path has its fair share of challenges, you are not alone and you will laugh again.
Each chapter of This Isn't the Life I Ordered delivers a nugget of wisdom that will leave you inspired and entertained. Jenniffer shows the human side of trying to be spiritual, with several laughs and poignant lessons along the way. Not entirely sure what this is....
The book (at least the first chapter) is about comments that people had made to the Author that were relevant to her topic of leaving her marriage. I'm not sure these musings on what people think is ok or not, and whether your happiness matters is much of a question. I only got a short way in.
It occurred to me that maybe its relevant to an American rather than European way of making life decisions. It may be better for people of 60 -80 years of age who may have the weight of society's expectation on them.
The question of whether to end a marriage isn't a simple one... marriages will experience different reasons for their endings.... and yet almost all are covered by a small group of reasons.
I like the Narrator, she immediately put me into an upbeat mood. I see that the objective of the book was partly reflective and autobiographical, but also a type of humorous self help book. I just didn't gel with it and it seemed a bit disjointed.
I love the work of Nora Ephron and even a little Joan Rivers from time to time. This was an attempt at a kind of Sex and the City for more mature and polite ladies, but it missed the mark for me both in purpose and cohesiveness. Perhaps it gets better as it continues?

good story, great narration, abrupt ending. It was fun and funny and I enjoyed her journey, but the ending came out of nowhere.

Not worth the time
I enjoy self reflection but the idea that society is “popping too many pills” in relation to depression turned me right off. It’s self reflection with a side of judging everyone else.

Jennifer is a wonder
I’ve listened to two of Jennifer’s books and have found them soothing with practical advice for my life. I would make this review longer, but I have to go make a list and then love, forgive, and wish for the highest good!❤️
