Summary

As spring begins at Thrush Green, a series of local dramas takes hold of the community. Plans for the fete are hotting up, the illness of Mrs Peters at the restaurant makes the future unsure for the staff, and there are problems at Rectory Cottages.

Well up to Standard Thrush Green instalment

I’d read most of Miss Read’s books and thoroughly enjoyed them and this one, new to me, filled in a few gaps in the complex and fascinating village story. I recommend these books as a peaceful oasis in a busy world.

Gentle tale of Country doings

A charming gently meandering tale recognisable to any who have lived in an English country village without murders or mayhem just the real everyday concerns of Thrush Green's residents. Narrated beautifully.

Utterly beautiful

I am working my way through all Miss Read’s books, having discovered them by accident it’s now all I want to read! I am very sad to be nearing the end of the beautiful, heartening, entertaining Thrush Green series,

This book was much better than the last one. I completely loved listening to this one, a fairly gentle meander through a year in the life of the residents.

I do find it amusing that there are minor continuity errors throughout the Village School and Thrush Green series, it makes me smile to realise them - I could forgive Miss Read nearly anything. For example, Jenny and Nelly lose a couple of decades off their ages! At one time Jenny is ten years younger than Winnie and then suddenly she’s in her 40s, and Nelly and Albert went to school together but then he’s been drawing his pension for years and she’s much younger.

The narrator was very good, with her timing and the emotion she put into the story.

Another trip to Thrush Green

I am working my way through the Thrush Greens books. This was a new narrater for this gentle tale, and it was well done. A break is needed now from these tales of idealised village life. But I will return for more in the future.
