Summary
Now a major motion picture directed by Martin Scorsese, starring Leonardo Dicaprio (The Great Gatsby, The Aviator), Matthew McConaughey (Mud, Magic Mike), Jonah Hill (Moneyball), Jean Dujardin (The Artist), Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights, Zero Dark Thirty) and Joanna Lumley (Absolutely Fabulous), and adapted for the screen by Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire). "What separates Jordan's story from others like it, is the brutal honesty." - Leonardo DiCaprio.
Stock market multimillionaire at 26, federal convict at 36, he partied like a rock star, lived like a king, and barely survived his rise and fall as an American entrepreneurial icon. By day he made thousands of dollars a minute. By night he spent it as fast as he could, on drugs, sex, and international globe-trotting. From the binge that sunk a 170-foot motor yacht, crashed a Gulfstream jet, and ran up a $700,000 hotel tab, to the wife and kids who waited for him for at home, and the fast-talking, hard-partying young stockbrokers who called him king and did his bidding, here, in his own inimitable words, is the story of the ill-fated genius they called...The Wolf of Wall Street.
In the 1990s Jordan Belfort, former kingpin of the notorious investment firm Stratton Oakmont, became one of the most infamous names in American finance: a brilliant, conniving stock-chopper who led his merry mob on a wild ride out of the canyons of Wall Street and into a massive office on Long Island. In this astounding and hilarious tell-all autobiography, Belfort narrates a story of greed, power, and excess no one could invent - the story of an ordinary guy who went from hustling Italian ices at sixteen to making hundreds of millions. Until it all came crashing down.

Better then the film
Unbelievably good and well written. The best part is his exit speech, because he keeps getting interrupted. He writes the most minor details into the book, making it so vivid and holds you firlmy thoughout. Readers impressions are rubbish and annoying, especially his impressions of infants and women.

Superb!
This is easily the best book I've listened to. It's totally captivating. What a mixed up crazy life Jordan had.

Amazing life story - much better than the film
Would you listen to The Wolf of Wall Street again? Why?
It is a very long audio book but Jordan Belfort's life is so full it could probably be longer. The story is so compelling. I saw the film after listening to the book and was disappointed that the film only covers some of Jordan's story. If you've only seen the film I would definitely recommend the book.
What other book might you compare The Wolf of Wall Street to, and why?
Not sure if you can compare this level of madness to anything else.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The narrator does a terrible impression of Jordan's wife. It might have been better if they had used a woman for this part. Some of the humour is lost because of this.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
In a way it was quite inspirational, just steer clear of the drugs, prostitutes, insider trading. By the end you feel quite sorry for Jordan.Although I'm sure Jordan is doing well for himself. It is a classic rags to riches to rags story, with a large does of excess thrown in.
Any additional comments?
Great story, and apparently its all true. Well worth listening to if you have the time.

Great book but not enough about the early Stratton
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
yep
good story
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Put in a few chapters of the early days at Wall street and the start of Stratton Oakmont.
As it is, he goes straight into Stratton after its initial success and doesnt talk enough anout the early days.

Accelerating and Exciting.
Thank goodness be lives to tell the tale. A very engaging performance fro. Eric Myers who's imitation of Jordan Belfort is very much alike. Head likeness to his characteristics makes the Wolf of Wall Street more realistic.

Hilarious, captivating, interesting! What a story!
The movie doesn't make justice to this book. if you found the movie good you'll find this book amazing! In fact, I tried watching the movie again but I couldn't as it doesn't come anywhere close to the book (like most books which were made to movies)
I think Jordan is an amazing writer. He keeps you interested to the story through.
And yes, he's cocky and perhaps a bit pretentious, but the guy owns everything he did and uses a healthy dose of self-criticism in a funny and banterry way, proving that he has both feet on the hearth and he's not deluded about himself. After all he's the wolf of wall street, married a model and lived the most insane life. He has the right to be pretentious from time to time.
The narrator is really good. His impressions of Nadine (Jordan's wide) always made me laugh. How much more high-pitched can you go?!
It's a long book, but I deeply recommend.

Amazing
An unbelievable story of a man with a talent to generate a great wealth, as his life roller coasters out of control with drugs and alcohol
