Summary

Includes an exclusive introduction from the author.

The international number one best-selling author of The Notebook, Nicholas Sparks is back with his most epic story yet.

What if the person you needed most turned up when you least expected them?

Maggie hasn't told this story in years. More than two decades ago, she fell in love. She was 16 and far from home, waiting to give her baby up for adoption. Bryce showed Maggie how to take photographs, and he didn't judge her for the way her belly swelled under her jumper. They had the perfect first kiss. Theirs was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of love.

Now, as Maggie sits by the Christmas tree in her gallery telling her story, surrounded by the photographs that made her famous - the photographs Bryce never saw - her new gallery assistant asks her a question. If she had one wish, what would she wish for this Christmas?

Maggie always thought she knew the answer to that question. But before she can say 'I'd go back to that winter with Bryce', she stops herself. It is all she has ever wanted, but suddenly here, on this dark night under the twinkling stars, there is something else she wants. She wants to find her baby.

A heart-wrenching and uplifting story about discovery and loss, The Wish is a reminder that time with those precious to us is the greatest gift of all.

The wish

I feel that this book should come with a warning…. If you are not in the mood to deal with the main character battling with stage 4 cancer ( a fact we told right from the start so I don’t feel a spoiler alert is necessary) then you might not want to read / listen to this book right now.

Nicholas says in the introduction…this will make you cry ( although that’s nothing unusual for one his books) and yes I did cry.

That said it is a good, enjoyable story, (although particularly one of Maggie’s decisions didn’t make sense to me , I’m detracting one star because of this. .)
I didn’t think it could come with a satisfying ending but it does.
Well narrated

It was OK

I love Nicholas Sparks books but this was not my favourite. I didn't warm to the characters particularly well and felt the story wasn't as strong as others.

Beautiful story!

I have read and listened to many books but never left a review before. This book was on another level, won’t give anything away but it resonated with me on a very personal level, never have I cried walking in the street listening to a narration before. A wonderful story of love and loss. I have read there is going to be a film adaptation this year I hope they do it justice.

Love is stronger than fear

as the author predicted in the opening....I end thos book in tears!
I was caught in the story from the beginning till the end, finish in few days.
Beautiful narration and message.

It also reminded me of my own first love...breaks my heart every time wondering what if we did make different decisions...
It's almost Xmas....perfect choice to read.

I loved every minute of my listening

I have read almost all books by Nicholas Sparks and starting to read his latest book I was wondering whether I would be as overwhelmed by the story as I was before. And I was! As English is not my mother tongue unlike native English speakers I read not only for the story but for the language. Nicholas Sparks has never let me down in any way The performance was excellent! Every day I was looking forward to the time I could carry on listening to the book like I was addicted. Thank you for the precious moments!
