Summary
"I don't know who was most excited that morning when the three of us hoisted packs on our backs and started off down the trail. Just before we disappeared from view of our yard, I turned for one more wave. You woulda thought we were marching off to war or something. I even saw Aunt Lou blow her nose on her white hankie. They all looked glad and sad at the same time, happy we were doing something we really wanted to do, anxious that everything would go all right, and a bit sad we were growing up." On the brink of manhood, Josh was facing important questions about life, about love, about himself. "I sure was having a time of it trying to sort out all these different ideas and feelings¿maybe I should just go fishing!"

Good story
Josh grows into a teenager. As any teenager, he must decide what to value, what to cheerish and what to discharge as garbage from everything the grown ups taught him so far. His story was surprinsigly deep, the lessons he learns are precious for any reader.
The narrator was wonderful, I loved her production

Janette has such a beautiful gift of storytelling! Book 1 continues as Josh tells his story as a now 15 yr old. All the strife a young man (or women for that matter) deals with as they find their way in life between a child and an adult! He grows in his faith, and fails as well. He makes new friends, and looses old ones. He deals with more loss and accepts that his first impressions in a situation were void of all the facts.
Same wonderful narrator as book 1!

Heavy
A little bit preachy for my taste. Dark under tones of death and loss. Sad book.

Winds of Autumn
Janet Oke’s books are ALWAYS good and appropriate for all ages.
The only problem is, most times they’re just too short. I LIVE her stories❤️

Great Book!
Joshua is a little bit older now and will experience more betrayal, heart break and the loss of two family members. He is angry at God and ready to turn his back on him. There’s even the new teacher and his beautiful daughter (who Josh is smitten with) to help him down that road when they introduce evolution and encourage Josh to take the educated route. Josh learns many life lessons in this book.
