A Great Period Story!

This is the story of Kate and Henry, who find themselves struggling between right and wrong, friendship and enmity, and the pull of family dynamics! They are “real” people to whom I could fully relate and I found myself hoping (along with them) for a better and brighter future. The period is Yorkshire England in the early nineteenth century during a time of great transition for the weaving community as machines and mass production are impacting their lives and their very livelihood. I found myself fully immersed in the richly detailed setting, with pacing and timing that was perfect - true to the circumstances and situation at hand. There were not easy answers or platitudes to resolve all of the hurt and hardships that had to be faced.

The secondary characters also came alive on every page. I was so thoroughly frustrated with Henry’s grandfather and Kate’s father; I cringed at the thought of John with Kate or Frederica with Henry. I loved Charles as well as Molly. All of these characters added so much dimension to The Weaver’s Daughter. This is truly a book not to be missed. {I am so happy it is now available on Audible (and very well done) as well so I can share it with my daughters who are too busy running after little ones to sit down with a book for any length of time.}

Wonderful storyline.

Loved this book. The performance of Jude Mason made this story better. She's a gifted story teller.

Nice and Interesting story, difficult to follow

This was a very nice story. Just difficult to follow. I’ve listened to hundreds of books and have never had such a hard time keeping track of who was who. I would not want to discourage anyone from listening. I’m sure my difficulty is partly due to the fact that I listen 20 minutes at a time throughout every day and the narrator didn’t change up the character voices for each one. The women, older men, young men all had their own voices but that was pretty much the extent. . I recommend creating a character guide to refer back to periodically throughout the story.

Excellent story, well developed plot

I read and listen to a lot of historical romance novels and this is the best one in I’ve come across in a long while. Multiple plots weave together and the author takes time to develop the characters (not just the main hero and heroine of the story). The themes reminded me of Elizabeth Gaskell’s novel North and South. I took others’ advice and listened to it slowed down to 0.75x, which made the inflections and characters voices much easier to understand. Please don’t be deterred by negative reviews-if you’re interested in a novel that’s more developed than a light beach read then give this one a try.

Great listen

Loved this story. Gives us a different perspective on the industrial revolution. It was hard to accept change and technology. Sometimes tore families apart.

NOT chick-lit. Great story, not so great narrator

This is a very good story about the war between weavers and mill owners during a transition period of industrialization. There were several subplots as well as the budding romance that requires the entire book to finally resolve itself. Well worth the credit and the time to listen.
The narrator reads very well but there were times when I couldn't tell which character was speaking in a two-way conversation between a man and a woman.
This is NOT chick lit. I enjoyed it very much.

Captivating

Sarah has a keen sense of detail. The story felt fresh and new. Just when I thought she’d forgotten something, leaving me questioning, the answers were woven in. Excellent! I couldn’t stop listening. Bravo to the reader, too.

unfinished story.

i didn't like how the narrator read the story. it was read to fast . it was like she was rushing thru the story. also rhe story seemed unfinished.

Boring

I’m truly surprised at how high the rating is for this book. I found it boring and the description misleading. I kept taking breaks from it because I would catch myself only half listening. I didn’t care about the characters nor what happened with the story itself. I only forced myself to finish it so I didn’t feel like I had completely wasted my money. I must have unreasonably high expectations for a story because I certainly did not find this one to be anywhere near 4.5 stars.
