Summary

Courtney Banks owns a failing book store, and her relationship with her girlfriend Mia is falling apart. Courtney doesn't even think she believes in love...that is, until she meets the vampire next door.

Valeria "Lare" Máille is a gorgeous scientist working on cutting-edge genetics. She also just happens to be a vampire, and Courtney's new neighbor. Sparks fly from the very first moment Courtney and Lare meet, and their attraction is undeniable. But in a world where vampires have just "come out" of hiding, tensions between humans and vampires are running high. When Lare's co-workers begin to go missing, it looks like foul play may put Lare in danger, too.

Will Courtney and Lare have a chance at love, or is the cost of falling for a vampire too high?

The Vampire Next Door is a light-hearted paranormal romance that will take you on a journey you'll never forget.

Written by wife-and-wife authors Natalie Vivien (known for her laugh-out-loud contemporary romances) and Bridget Essex (known for her vampires and werewolves in love), The Vampire Next Door is a marriage of humor, steamy romance, and a love story that's out of this world.

Superb narration

The narration by Marina Barrett was fantastic, I could not fault it, and she definitely added to the book by her narration, she put so much passion into it. I would 100% listen to another book by her.

I enjoyed the story; I think it was well written, time seemed to fly. I would have liked to have seen Lare meet Courtney’s sister, also I would have liked to have seen Lare meet Azure (her BFF) once they started dating, as I think it would have added to the story. I would have also liked to have known how old Lare was and what is going to happen as Courtney grows older as she’s human. Also about Lare’s past as all we knew is she had a foster family, from France and she is a Dr, but it would have been nice to have known what she has done in her life, what happened to her family etc.

So maybe a book 2 where Courtney gets to find out about Lare’s past and they get to know each others friends and family.

Maria Marquis' narration is amazing!

Maria knows what's she doing as she bring out the characters and tells the stories. Love it. I wanted more!

As a lesbian I wanted to love it.

The writing style was great and got me hooked really quick. But the entire story was extremely boring. Next to nothing happened. There was nothing supernatural except maybe in the last half hour. The romance didn’t make a whole lot of sense. We didn’t get that much backstory on any one character. In six months if you asked me to list one detail about this story I will not be able to. No joke there was zero action until the very end. And they declared their love for each other after having like 5 polite conversations. I’m so disappointed :( the voices were spot on though.

Maria Marquis! Vampire Romance! Yes Please!!!

5/5 stars This is one of the best Natalie Vivian/Bridget Essax novels and the narration by Maria Marquis omg her performance of Valeria is so good so sensual that it will melt you in all the right places. This audiobook is on par with Bridget Essex "Meeting Eternity Sullivan Vampires Volume 1 books 1-3" which is narrated by Lynn Devereux another Mistress of Sensuality.

An enjoyable listen with strong narration!

I'd been wanting to try a book by Bridget Essex for some time and was happy to find this one, written by Essex and wife Natalie Vivien.
When vampire Valeria "Lare" Maille walks into Courtney Banks's rare books store, Courtney can't help but be stunned by her beauty and mesmerizing eyes. Lare is looking for a very rare book that may or may not even exist, but Courtney enjoys a challenge. She takes her contact information, not knowing if she'll ever see the woman again. She's taken aback to find after a power outage later at home that Lare has recently moved in next door.
As they develop a friendship, Courtney's tenuous relationship with girlfriend Mia continues to implode and human employees are going missing from the company Lare works for. Courtney is drawn to Lare like she's never been to anyone before, but fidelity means everything to her so anything beyond friendship is out of the question. Lare doesn't push either way - nor does she know Courtney even has a girlfriend.
The evolution of their story, the mystery of what happened to those missing colleagues and society's reaction to vampires having been integrated into the mainstream is what this story is about.
This is a quick listen at less than 6-1/2 hours and while it does have some challenges for the characters, it's quite lighthearted and even fun. The chemistry between Lare and Courtney is palpable and the narrator does a terrific job with Lare's French accent especially. Very, very sexy. I'm a bit confused about the narrator's name because on Goodreads it says the narrator's name is Maria Marquis, but then Audible has her name listed as Marina Barrett. Whoever she is, I'm happy to have found her as she's talented and I am very picky about narrators.
This was entertaining and I'll certainly be checking out more books by Essex, Vivien or both!

can you love a vampire

In this witty and twist story of how to love and not be betrayed. I find this book voiced by M. Barrett brings to life an outstanding rendition of vampires.

Nice love story, with a twist

First time in my life that I listen to an anglophone reader doing a VERY NICE French accent. I am French. Some mistakes and the usual problem with the rendition of the French sound R but the reader does a great job: no caricature, right "foreign intonations".
Nice story about tolerance and falling in love.
Not too many "hot scenes" (I do not like them, I think being too literal makes things ridiculous), which is a plus. But a very fine way of describing a blooming love.
The "suspense" side" of the story is not bad. I like how the vampire theme stands for tolerance, but not in an over-simplistic way.
All in all, I obviously like this novel.

Amazing and sexy french accent, sweet love story

Marina Barrett, girl! Why are you not narrating every book on audible? I have listened to A LOT of audio books with some truly amazeballs narration and your delivery of this book blew my socks off. And that French accent? I am dead.

The love story is sweet with very low angst levels and a bit of action at the end. It has one scene in particular that was just very sweet and fun and had me grinning like an idiot.

I enjoyed this book. It's a no brainier if you have the romance package and even if I didn't I would definitely spend a credit on it.

Wow!

Loved it! My only complaint is that it was too-too short! Great story, great chemistry between Courtney and Lare. Marina Barrett, the narrator, did an excellent job - the French accent, wow! :D
