The Unwanted Wife by L. Steele is a brother's best friend marriage of convenience romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Shane East and Roxy Isles. This is the first book in The Davenports series.

This is the first book of L. Steele's that I have read, and it won't be my last. I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn't to see how it would all play out. I really enjoyed the relationship between Nathan and Skylar. I loved that we got both of their points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

I look forward to jumping into the next book in the series The Imperfect Marriage so I can get Quentin and Vivian's story.

Shane and Roxy did an amazing job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this book if you're looking for a brother's best friend romance, marriage of convenience romance, or a billionaire romance.

Wow did not see that twist coming. Good story as ever from L Steele with fantastic narrators.
Didn't like the American language used for English characters set in England (sidewalk not pavement, elevator not lift, etc) I suppose it reaches out to a larger audience though

Nathan & Skylar

This book is meant to be set in UK and the characters are meant to be British but the author clearly hasn't done research into how things function in the UK. They have clearly used the USA ways of functioning as a basis. The way they described the Military is completely wrong for the UK and medical care is wrong too.
Although this is a great story it ruined it overall for me. The author should have just wrote the book set in the USA to make it more realistic. Even though it is fictional it gives the wrong presidents of how things function in the UK.

I loved this story. This is Skylar and Nathan's story. Skylar is a wonderful character with a naughty sense of humor. and a wonderful baker Nathan has trauma in his past and with Skylar's help and love the work together to build a future together. I am off to read the next book.
The narration is excellent.

but it was not the authors best book. It was nice to be back in the same universe as many of her other books, it was like a random meeting with an old friend after a long time.
If you want something fun, spicy and romantic this is a good choice!

The Unwanted Wife is book 1 in the Davenports series. This is a brother's best friend, marriage of convenience, age gap tale and it's Skylar and Nate's story.
This novel gave us friendships, dysfunctional family dynamics, secrets, passion, heartbreak and had the biggest plot twist I didn't see coming.
Nate and Skylar are complete opposites yet they bring out the best in each other and I enjoyed the progression of their relationship. What starts as a business deal soon turned into something more.
I loved that Skykar was plus sized but disliked the way she talked negatively about herself. The story was emotional and had some triggers so do check the warning. It was an enjoyable tale and I would recommend it to romance lovers.

I listened to the audiobook which was narrated by Shane East and Roxy Isles. They both did a wonderful job with these narration. Their voices complimented each other and they gave each character their own personality. It was a pleasure listening to them narrate this novel.

I enjoyed the dual narration of Shane East and Roxy Isles

Willow owns a bakery and it is struggling. Nathan her brothers best friend reappears after years in the military. He offers her help but in return she is to his wife.
Skylar is bright and full of light, Nathan is grumpy. For the sake of saving her business, she will pretend to be his wife. But it was never really pretending in the first place. Since she was young Willow has been in love with Nathan.

captivating story line as expected from this author, the chemistry between Nathen and Skylar is off the charts and so hot it kept me riveted throughout the ups and downs of this plot. Definately a must read Lexi never fails to deliver I cant wait for the next in this series love all the books but my prferene is the audio the narators truely bring the story to life Shane East and Roxy Isles did a wonderfull job as always

The story was ok & the twist was out of left field, but overall I found the dialogue jarring & I just wasn’t invested in the characters. The curvy girl angle is a misnomer, because a UK size 16 can definitely find clothes in many stores in the UK & is not considered plus size. I found the narration to be disappointing. The male was OTT with dramatics in his narration of an “alpha male” & made me cringe (though I’ve listened to him in something else & really liked him). The female lead sounded like a child. As I said, an OK story but I’m not tempted to go into the rest of the series.
