Summary

In the revised edition of his hit book The Sacred Search, author Gary Thomas helps single people of all ages make wise marital choices, in large part by rethinking what basis those choices should be made on.

Listeners are encouraged to think beyond finding their “soul mate", an idea that has its roots in the philosophy of Plato, and instead adopt a more biblical search for a “sole mate” - someone who will walk with them on their spiritual journey.

Thomas asks, What if we focused on why to get married more than on who to marry? What if being “in love” isn’t a good enough reason to get married? And most of all, what if God designed marriage to make us holy more than to make us happy?

An excellent reading of great wisdom

I enjoyed this. The reading was as passionate as required and the wisdom of the words hit home. The only complaint I have is there is something wrong with Chapter 10. I don't think it is complete.

Best book on Christian relationships I have ever read!

A must read for all Christians whether single, courting, married or divorced! It’s by far the most balanced spiritually and practically and equally challenging book. The author has done a service to the Kingdom in writing this book and I’ll definitely be recommending it to others. God bless you Gary!

I wish I had read it before.

I’m a counselor who is very happy with my marriage… And I wish I had read this book before I got married. Gary Thomas does an excellent job of leading through biblical wisdom and practical advice in a way that frees people to make real decisions about long-term life, purpose, and satisfaction.

Thomas’s information is up-to-date, and he relies on experts in all the right places. He has good boundaries concerning the practical application of missional thinking, and pulls no punches in the area of devotion to God. At the same time, he recognizes the basic nature of many important factors like trauma, sexuality, and the way that we cover up real decisions with poor thinking. I enjoyed this book immensely!

It is definitely going on my shelf as a future resource for young men and women.

Gary has helped me understand why my marriage became broken.

Highly recommend

I highly recommend this book to anyone that’s single and looking, or even those who are dating or maybe engaged. I will definitely listen to it again.

Chapter 10 is incomplete though.. so four stars overall.

interesting.......

I chose this book because my church recommended it to the congregation. I'm not sure I would personally recommend it. Don't really want to get into why, just feel there's too much negativity in the book, especially towards the end. Others may feel differently. That's just how I felt.

Straight to the point!

In the first part of this book, I was hesitant to "read" this in audible; it is so good I want to jot down and write on the sides of the pages or underline the necessary parts. Thank God for bookmarks and clips!
