Summary

“I used to be a lesbian.”

In Gay Girl, Good God, author Jackie Hill Perry shares her own story, offering practical tools that helped her in the process of finding wholeness. Jackie grew up fatherless and experienced gender confusion. She embraced masculinity and homosexuality with every fiber of her being. She knew that Christians had a lot to say about all of the above. But was she supposed to change herself? How was she supposed to stop loving women, when homosexuality felt more natural to her than heterosexuality ever could?

At age 19, Jackie came face-to-face with what it meant to be made new. And not in a church, or through contact with Christians. God broke in and turned her heart toward him right in her own bedroom in light of his gospel.

Listen in order to understand. Listen in order to hope. Or listen in order, like Jackie, to be made new.

This is a book for any Christian

this is a fantastic book Jackie Perry is extremely honest warts and all, she talks about her struggles and how ultimately the goal for her was to love Jesus.

this is a great book it really made me think about dying to myself and where there are areas of my life that I need to bring Jesus into. I'd recommend this book to anyone not just same-sex attracted Christians.

Poetic Praise

Jackie speaks of what God has done for her and she does this in her own poetic way, yet the big portrait is not her but to God.

Superb

I loved hearing this read in Jackie's own voice.

Her writing is evocative and flows like the poetry she is known for.

Her honesty is challenging and her story is moving.

Ultimately she points to the one who has saved her, soli deo gloria

Honest and rooted in understanding of God's love

Jackie's willingness to open up herself brings a much needed clarity of thinking to the Identity issues of our time.

Beautifully Expressed

It's poetic, honest and truthful. Based on scripture yet not bible bashing... It's well worth a listen.

great to have it read by the author

a little way through it makes perfect sense when the author (and narrator) notes that she is a poet too. The book is poetically written in parts, and it is great to have it read in the style in which it was intended.

an interesting book that moves at pace and gives reasoned, moderate advice

Brilliant - Grace of a good God

This account reflects the God story which is the most important. “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God…” Rom3:23-25. So it’s a great reminder no one sin is worse than another. This is book is for all Christians with Christian and non Christian same sex attracted friends. The end of full of biblical resources also weaved throughout the book. Worth a read/ a listen! Thank you Jackie.

Interesting perspective on American Christian LGBTQ issues

Jackie gives some interesting insight into how American Christian’s perceive LQBTQ issues. I would have liked to have seen a bit more theological unpacking of her point of view since she takes a lot for granted and assumes her reader/listener agrees with her perspective. But nevertheless her story is very insightful and her testimony of coming to faith is beautiful.
