Summary

“Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 3:18)

How do Christians grow? Few question the call of the Bible to grow in godliness, but the answer to exactly how this happens is often elusive.

In this audiobook, Dane Ortlund points believers to Christ, making the case that sanctification does not happen by doing more or becoming better, but by going deeper into the wondrous gospel truths that washed over them when they were first united to him.

Drawing on wisdom from figures throughout church history, Ortlund encourages listeners to fix their gaze on Jesus in the battle against sin, casting themselves upon his grace and living out their invincible identity in Christ.

Grace-filled Gospel Growth

I loved this book! It is read by the author who has a great voice and is very easy to listen to. Each chapter uncovers another aspect of how we grow deeper in Christ.

Listen more than once!

I have listened to the nine times now as I go about my day and each time I hear something new.. It is full of the 'how to' listen, look and think of Jesus and I needed that simplicity. It's helped me to cut through the many ways I was looking in the wrong direction and has re-awoken the Holy Spirit in me.. What a blessing.. Thank you.. 🙏

Disappointing

I listening to this book by Ortlund after listening to his book Gentle and Lowly, which was excellent. This was not. It rambles, is incoherent and one gets lost in why it was even written. Seems like a follow up to the aforementioned book to make money. Couldn’t get through it

A Deeper Relationship with Christ

I have listened to over 50 audible books and by far this has been most impactful to me. Not only does Dane Ortlund not only tells but shows how God is waiting for our intimacy with Him. Can’t wait until the next book gets authored.

So much to take in

This is going to take a another read at least. There is so much to take in. Dane Orlund’s presentation is so easy to follow, but he gives you so much to absorb. Terrific read for any Christian.

Every Christian should read this book!

Every Christian should read this book! Although not a long book, Dane Ortlund does a masterful job of marrying both solid Biblical doctrine and life application on how Christians are to live everyday life. It is one of the best books I have read in the last couple of years. It is ranked as my number one favorite so far in the books I’ve read in 2022. It is truly a modern Christian classic! Don’t put it off, if you are a believer in Christ Jesus read it soon.

Sincerely,
Pastor Paul Trimble

Don’t rush this book

Don’t rush this book. It is like a slow walk with Jesus, contemplating various ways He uses the simple “elementary principles” to woo us into deeper love for him. Read it slowly. Read it with Him and with others.
