Summary

Get ready to fall in love with this royally charming rom com — featuring a full cast and an immersive audio soundscape!

Maggie Patel has landed her dream job at The New York Spectator; or, it would be, if she could get a decent story assignment. When a career-making interview finally lands on her desk, it’s with the last person she’d ever want to see again — Edward, the Crown Prince of Bairmorne...and her long-ago friend.

When Maggie was a child, her mother worked as a housemaid at the Royal Palace of Bairmorne, a small European nation, until they were unceremoniously kicked to the curb...amidst a cloud of whispered controversy and palace intrigue. Now, Prince Edward and Maggie are all grown up and they both have jobs to do — but there’s a spark between them they can’t deny. Will that spark lead to something more, and can their attraction withstand public scrutiny, royal duty, and secrets from the past?

It's so bad it's almost good, but not

I don't expect very much from free chick-lit audio books, but this is one long cringe fest. it's only due to personal circumstances that my need for mental escape overwrote senses of dignity and kept me listening to the end.

My two star overall rating was earned by the sound production, the rom-com feel and the tiny twist at the end.

I could forgive the wooden acting by prince Teddy, but the direction is very disjointed and the writing is the appealing, unless the whole production was ironic.

Cliches are constantly forced into the narrative breaking up any sense of flow in the narrative.

The saying is "Write what you know" and I doubt the writers have ever been to Europe or had any interest in genuine royal families anywhere.
The intentions are good but the end result is beyond corny.

Didn't make it to act 2,extrenely slow, with music

Barely anything happens in the 1st hour, just a stuck up annoying Prince hitting on the reporter, music almost every 10minutes some of it not my taste either & if you want to change the speed ,the music gets distorted anyway... Gave up,nothing interesting, almost zero comedy, maybe grinned once in the hour I listened.

Too much information/sound

Having more people and the use of SFX are good but this book just had too much of it. I personally enjoy when there are more than 1 Narrator with some SFX used, but not all of the narrator talking over eachother + the SFX going off in the background. Everything was too overwhelming and hard to understand what was really happening.

a quick fun listen

I listened to this in one sitting and enjoyed it. the performances were really good, the audio effects a bit too much or too loud at times though. the romance was kinda predictable but not necessarily a bad thing. however, I feel the characters needed some more fleshing out, felt a bit one dimensional.

sweet and light

A little romance to relax on the weekend. A light story and, despite having the typical romance clichés, it surprises in some ways and is quite engaging.

Not for me

I really didn't like this book at all, the style just really grated on me, and not even a few of my favourite narrators could save it.

loved it

The story is a little obvious but the pleasure was definitely in listening to the atmosphere of sounds and truly funny moments.

Devoured this book!

Listened to this book incredibly quickly and loved it. A predicable read but that is what I was expecting. The actors did a great job and I loved listening to more than one person within thd story.

Good story, but the background noise was distracting

I would’ve given this story 5 stars, but the music and background noise took me out of the story too often. The music was unnecessary and confusing. It did not fit the tone of the story and kept bringing me back to reality.

Jaunty fun and sweet love story

I'm becoming a real sucker for these full-cast productions. This is a delightful listen: engaging story, outstanding lead performances, big production, and a sweet, endearing romance at its heart. Performers have fabulous chemistry and I was bopping along to the music interludes on my drive home. Would 100% recommend to romcom fans looking for a fun pick-me-up!

Easy Breezy Listen

A light listen that’s perfect for those days of catching up on mindless tasks (housecleaning for me)! It’s a cute piece that’s safe to have on with kiddos in the house! 🥰

Did you see that Tweet from the Knicks coach?

It probably said "listen to The Royal Assignment" and I'll be your best (work) friend. Thoroughly enjoyed this one, witty and fun soundtrack. Keep it up, Audible!

Amazing Book!

I loved this book. I was utterly immersed with the story line and the voice actors. This audio book felt like a mini cute movie, and I was here for every moment of it. I highly recommend this book.

Must be a joke?! Save yourself!

Not only is the format, ridiculous for an audible book and totally out of place as it’s Reminiscent of a radio show from the 30s or 40s . Think the orphan Annie or Allie from A Christmas Story glued to a radio serial. This is mostly due to the awful pop music between “scenes” and oddly timed sound effects. Also, the over explanation of plot and character relation. Additionally, the over play of “royals” and “Barmier”. The story line reminds me of a poorly written teen magazine. It might be free but you can not get back time nor pride.
