About this listen
When the peat-cutters came to report the dead man, Gil Cunningham was up in the roof-space of his mother's house, teaching his new young wife swordplay. They believe the corpse to be that of a local missing man.
His wife and the widow who runs the local coalmine are sure the body belongs to someone else, but then they find themselves accused of having killed him by witchcraft. And if the corpse is not the missing man, who is it? Gil and Alys try to get to the heart of the matter. Together they uncover more murders than they bargain for, and encounter the chilling secret at the heart of the mystery.

Andrew Watson……
….. his narration makes a good story even better - his narration, certainly for this series, is second to none!

enjoyable series.
five months have passed and gil has taken his wife elys back to his home so that his mother can get to know his bride. during their stay a body is found by peat cutters. the acid in the peat has mummified the body so only his hair retains its colour. gil has the task of finding out who the body is and tracing a man who has gone missing.
another good story by pat McIntosh good characterisation and plot with descriptions of life for the ordinary people of the times with accusation of witchcraft.
well performed by Andrew Watson.

A rich tale of murder and intrigue
I am enjoying listening to these books, I feel I'm getting more by hearing them than I did from reading. The nuances from the accent really helps with understanding the Scottish terms
